So, what IS the Magic Kingdom movie, anyway?
From the descriptions of the earlier project, it sounded like Disney trying to get a grab on the bestselling Kingdom Keepers book series–Except that they ran up against the basic problem between the two, in that the book series was not allowed to use specific Disney movie characters (we have a villain who only -looks- like Maleficent), and Disney had hoped to use nothing but.

Now it sounds like they’ve leaped onto the “Linked Universe” craze (uh, Disney, you -started- it, you don’t have to leap onto it) with their live-action Disney-character remakes.
Which sounds like they finally threw the books out the window and made up their own movie from scratch keeping the title and director.

I have read all of the Kingdom Keepers Books with my son (Currently reading #7) and they all very specifically mention Disney characters

If like to see it as a roger rabbit meets night at the museum sorta film nothing too heavy or actiony something that everyone could enjoy that’s funny 🙂

The kingdom keepers books are published BY Disney, so they use the characters from the movies such as Chernabog and Maleficent. They are mentioned by name. As for the Magic Kingdom movie, I heard that they were making this about a year ago and got super excited only to read that it is loosely based on Kingdom Keepers. This means that it will follow a FAMILY, not the keepers, as they get locked in the park after hours and the attractions come to life. I read this multiple places and while I hoped that it was a Kingdom Keepers movie, I don’t see it being one since the book series was originally pitched as a movie idea before being shut down and Ridley Pearson deciding to turn it into the popular book series it is today.

Originally, Night at the Museum was Fox trying to scuttle Disney’s “Unnatural History”, about a family stuck in the museum overnight, and Fox managed to defeat their rival by attaching a book-adaptation deal to it.
Disney might have the script story lying around and thought it could use the quasi-Kingdom Keepers storyline to retrofit it.

And while Keepers may have Disney’s blessing now, the first book had only licensed Park icons to use.
They couldn’t use Cruella DeVille, and…neither could Disney, as they found out when Dodie Smith complained about their attempt to use her in another movie.

Yes, I have the Kingdom Keeper series, and it is very specifically DISNEY and DISNEY CHARACTERS.

I’ve been crossing my fingers about this one because it’s a fun ride that could see FINN WHITMAN as DISNEY’S version of HP. Favreau could pull this off.

As with the series, the 1st film in line would center around Magic Kingdom (and to not give away SPOILERS) and so on and so forth through the rest of the series.

  6. The first thing I always have in my head when thinking of Magic Kingdom is my child hood and how alive everything felt. If this movie is made, I really want to see this movie about a child around the age of 8 or 9, go to the Magic Kingdom for the first time! I want the entire park to transform into this mystical world through a child’s eyes. An example would be Peter Pans Flight when instead of a simple pirate ship looking over machines, this child is flying across never land with Peter and Wendy. I would love to see a movie about the Magic Kingdom through the eyes of a kid via a movie!!

The “Magic Kingdom” movie idea is amazing, but it has already been created. “Kingdom Keepers” has already stolen so many hearts, including mine. It would be almost nothing without Finn, Philby, Maybeck, Willa, and Charlene. They are what makes it so magical. Disney would just break my heart if they didn’t turn “Kingdom Keepers” into a movie. They have magic at their fingertips.

From what I gathered, its about a family that gets stuck there after park hours. So a Disney-vised version of Night at the Museum
