Actually, this *IS* the first time Ichabod/Toad is on blu-ray. I like the decision to pair the two up (they previously did the same with Three Caballeros and Saludos Amigos – the titles aren’t strong enough to stand on their own and benefit from the pairing formula) and hope they do the same soon with Make Mine Music and Melody Time 🙂
With any of the older films in this review did they crop the films to make them fit the HD aspect ratio like they did with The Jungle Book’s blu ray release? Personally I hated that and don’t want to buy these if they have been changed like that even though I really enjoy and want The Reluctant Dragon. I am glad so many Disney movies are coming out on blu ray. The next movie I hope would be cleaned up and released on blu ray would be THE LOVE BUG (1969), by far the most successful film after Walt Disney’s passing. I would argue the reason BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS never caught on is that it lacks one of the major components Walt personally brought to his family films: sentiment and love. It is a colder product, lacking the emotional center of the movies of the Walt Disney era. The studio never recovered from his death until the release of THE LITTLE MERMAID.
