Comments for Walt Disney World announces Cinderella Castle plaza expansion with new gardens, more fireworks viewing at Magic Kingdom

  1. Denny

I don’t see the brass statues which are around the hub now in any rendering now and…the old Swan Boat pavilion and rose garden seem to be gone, too. That’s my favorite quiet place to rest and make phone calls! Oh, well…I do like the rest of it! I guess I’ll get used to it! I love the changes happening at the Magic Kingdom!

    1. Elaine Bennett

Hi, I agree with Denny. Please put back the brass statues of Walt with Mickey, Donald, Thumper and the rest! Please don’t leave them out!

      1. CTX

Partners statue is staying in the center. The character statues are being relocated to the two planters with the new fountains (these planters are directly in front of the new fake turf FP+ viewing areas).

  2. Rafael

This means that the Partners Statue will be taken down? Such a beautiful and iconic piece of the park? I don´t get most of the things the company is doing to the parks. I know they are making this due to guest flow. I went to the Magic Kingdom in January and it was a true nightmare crossing the hub. But I think that with this change the hub will also lose its magic. Let´s see how things go.

    1. Ricky Brigante

The Partners statue isn’t going anywhere. Look closely in the video and you’ll see it right where it’s always been.

  3. Rafael

Also the should keep the concrete red. Its the way Walt intended and there´s a reason to it. Why choosing that orange color?

    1. ryry

Actually imagineers came up with the color. It just makes the grass look greener then it actually is. So they probably developed that new tanish color thats easier on the eyes. Rather than the that terracotta color.

      1. Patrick

Actually it was Eastman Kodak that came up with the color so it would be picture perfect… On film. Who uses film today?

    2. Victoriaa

It might just be the lighting in the rendition.

You know, I would if Disney would create a theme restaurant based on Disney Renaissance animated films like “The Little Mermaid”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, “The Lion King” and as well the others.

Yeah that would be great, because I know those Disney Renaissance movies are very popular during the late 80s and 90s and loved by people of all ages (like kids, teens and adults too).

    1. Eric B. Freeman

Or how about a hotel based on Disney Renaissance films at maybe Walt Disney World or Disneyland? what would you think about that?

      1. Chaney Uffelman

Disney is a universe of characters, stories, settings and themes. It all falls under the same umbrella. Every era of animation is given its rightful place in the park. It’s important for them to appeal to guests of all ages and cultures. Acquiring Marvel and Lucasfilm, and of course Pixar but that’s old news, has added to this rich universe immensely.

Like many Disney and WDW fans at first, when the Avatar expansion was announced, i thought that is was a horrible idea. It had nothing to do with the Animal kingdom’s theme, and seemed opposite of the type of Disney story i was use to. Now, even though i am still skeptical, i have learned to except this new expansion. The Disney Parks are suppose to transport us into a world of fantasy, story, knowledge, a place to look to the future and learn from our past, to explore and surround ourselves with the magic. I trust the imagineers to do this right. From what i’ve seen/read so far, that trust is warranted.

The design of the Disney Parks is about blending these elements together under one name. They want mom and dad to have just as much fun as son and daughter. To invoke pleasant memories of family and friends.

    2. You mean like Be Our Guest and Gaston’s?

  5. Michelle

so, we loose more trees to more asphalt? Not good!~ Epcot already has pruned their trees in the World Showcase back so much they no longer provide the much needed shade in the summer, so it’s like walking in a asphalt parking lot. When will they understand that just because there is more room to walk around, people also want to be comfortable. Also, when are they going to get to work on stuff for Disney’s Hollywood Studios?

    1. Victoriaa

It looks to me like they are adding more trees and just taking away some of the water feature

  6. Frank

Most of the new space looks like it’s coming from filling in part of the canals to the left and right of Main Street. The Partners statue isn’t going anywhere and is shown in the video. The color of the walkways probably has more to do with the lighting in the rendered model than in any intentional change to the actual concrete.

how and where is the parade going to work with the new garden?

After working in the college program there this is a HUGE blessing for cast members trying to control these areas.

  9. Bella

My husband proposed at the foot of the Castle, and a couple of our friends, Disney cast members helped to arrange it. Later that night for the fireworks, we got VIP seating inside the Rose Garden, by ourselves, with our Disney handlers off at a distance to ensure our privacy on a romantic night. I will be very sad to see it go away. There were so many wonderful memories there, from my first visit to MK in 1972, to my last one, this past year at Christmas.

  10. Cesar Jimenez

    Looks great!

  11. Anita Hartung

As we tend to stay out side of the disney hotels at present feel we are being treated unfairly by disney as we cannot access fast past plus. We are paying the same entrance fee but not getting the same benefits. It’s great if you are staying in resort and get the extra manic hour, good on you and enjoy but every one should have same access to fast passes!

    1. Sydney

Hey Anita! You actually can get access to FastPass+ without staying in a resort! Not everyone gets the option for the magic band, but you can use your park entrance ticket instead to get access to the fast passes! I have an annual pass and use my park ticket for access to fastpass!

      1. Kyle

Actually you can buy a magic band for $12.95 in the parks and in downtown disney!

  12. Greg

Looks great. The extra space is really needed for parades and fireworks. I’m sad, tho, to see those 4 little buildings with the copper roofs go away and replaced with, what are those two mini guest castles? The copper-toppers seemed rather historic – possibly a Disneyland-era design that I greatly admired.

  13. Victoriaa

I think this looks great!! And they are adding castle enviornment decorations to a few places near the castle! I am sure this will help allow more people to enjoy the fireworks and stuff with the castle. Are the fountains new? I am sure those will be really cool!

i LOVE disney, unfortunately by them adding things the price goes up, it is already overpriced and hard for families to afford…sad

  15. Miro

Good move. Sad to see the lovely grass going which always provided Disney with perfect shots of Celebrities in front of the castle.

NOW PLEASE ADD SIDEWALKS ALONGSIDE MAIN STREET (like in Paris) – the road is far too narrow for the masses. I personally once was guided behind the scenes with all the crowd because it was too busy: that was soo not-Disney and happens frequently.

  16. Robert

Our favorite place to rest is being removed… the old Swan Boat dock in the Rose Garden.

  17. Steve

The Rose Garden and Boat House will be truly missed by our family. Our daughter was married there on November 4th, 2011 in what was truly a magical day. The wedding was 21 years and 2 days from when she declared to her mom and dad that when she grew up she would be married at “Her Castle”. We will become grandparents for the first time this summer, and will be making many trips back to the Magic Kingdom in the years ahead. I had always planned to make the Rose Garden a stop of reflection on each visit, but I will forever recall that special day from the memories etched in my mind when she was the Happiest Person on Earth at her Happiest Place on Earth. I suppose time marches on, and change is inevitable, but this leaves me one melancholy dad!

  18. Kenny

Disney continues to update and change it’s park giving new areas and things to do for visitors. We are DVC members and go to Disney World every two years which means there is something new to look forward to seeing. Love the Disney.

  19. Harry

Is Disney taking down a section of the Crystal Palace?

  20. Harry

Are they taking a section of the Crystal Palance down? It is haard enough to get into for dinner.

  21. Toby

Does anyone know how long this is going to take to implement? turn around time? I’m going end of April and would be kind of bummed if all the water is still drained!

  22. Melissa k

Going in September, does anyone know if the construction blocks the castle view from main st when you first enter mk?

    1. Susan C

      It doesn’t block the view.
