“Though the United States won’t allow all of the traditional haggis ingredients, this version was a lot closer to the authentic variety than the vegetarian haggis currently being served daily at the Scotland marketplace during the festival – and it was quite good, seasoned enough to make anyone forget exactly what they were eating, simply tasting like a well prepared beef and lamb dish.”
I was not a fan of the vegetarian haggis this weekend. I wish they would have done something more traditional like you described.
They were afraid that anything too “extreme” wouldn’t sell well. Vegetarian haggis will surely sell better than something with the word “liver” in the name, even if the liver version is better. I did like the veggie haggis, but I wouldn’t really call it haggis.
I don’t even -know- what constitutes “genuine” Scottish cuisine–Every time someone on movies/TV makes refs about Scottish food, they usually go for the EXACT SAME joke about real haggis ingredients, everyone goes “blech” and they leave it at that.
I like going to the Epcot UK restaurants for English cuisine, so I always wonder what the tastes are up north.
(And just think, if they’d kept the Scottish pavilion from the Millenium building, they’d finally have character meets for it! 😉 )

Doesn’t it feel like a “dumbing down” of the culture? i mean, this is a food and wine festival, which is supposed to be more authentic fare?
