Disney has revealed that the updated and enhanced version of the popular Star Tours attraction, dubbed Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, will not open at Disneyland in California until June, leaving the world premiere to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando on May 20.

UPDATE: Disneyland has announced the opening date of Star Tours 2 in California to be June 3.

The opening date will coincide with the first day of Star Wars Weekends 2011 and will feature, at minimum, Star Wars celebrities Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka), though others are still to be announced.

Once aboard Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, guests will climb into a Starspeeder 3000 for an adventure that takes place between the first and second Star Wars trilogies, with C-3PO as the new pilot – all in 3D.

The original Star Tours, which first opened at Walt Disney World in 1989 received a “final flight” party in September 2010, for which Disney invited D23 members and guests to take a last spin aboard the classic version of the attraction.

Hi Ricky, do you have a direct link to the source for this announcement? Same with Disney’s announcement that the DCA Little Mermaid ride will not open until Summer versus May?

    1. Ricky Brigante

Yes, it is in a general release about what’s coming up in the parks:

“…the Star Tours attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida (scheduled to reopen May 20) and at Disneyland Park in California (scheduled to reopen in June)…”

“At Disneyland Resort, a new attraction and a new parade also are debuting this summer…”

I don’t know if it’s just the way it was phrased, but the original Star Tours opened in Disneyland in 1985. Perhaps the writer meant the original opening date for the Disneyworld version?

    1. Ricky Brigante

Sorry for the poor phrasing. By “original” Star Tours, I meant the first version of the attraction. And yes, that’s the Walt Disney World opening date.

No problem, just wanted to make sure the West Coast got some love =D

I think I already know the answer, but will the screen size still be that same teeny, tiny screen that has always been there? I was very much hoping for a much larger screen to provide a more immersive experience.

    1. Ricky Brigante

I don’t think they’re changing the cabins, but the projections will be 3D now, so at least the screen will appear deeper if not wider or taller. 🙂
