This week, Walt Disney World Resort inexplicably closed the main entrance to Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. The change came without any prior announcement from the Most Magical Place on Earth.

On Thursday, guests once again arrived in the World Celebration neighborhood at EPCOT to find both the standby and Lightning Lane queue entrances to Spaceship Earth closed. According to X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace, posted signs and Disney cast members directed guests to an alternate entrance on the side of the building, closer to Project Tomorrow (the interactive area at the ride exit).

Walt Disney World Resort has not said why the main entrance to Spaceship Earth was closed and blocked with stanchions on October 22. However, this is just one minor change for an attraction with a much bigger refresh on the schedule.

The Future of the Iconic Geodesic Sphere

At D23 Expo 2026, Walt Disney World Resort announced plans to reimagine the inside of Spaceship Earth with a focus on human connection. The futuristic, innovation-focused dark ride was originally slated for an overhaul in 2019, but the project was shelved indefinitely due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced when Spaceship Earth will close for its overhaul, or shared much more about the ride’s new storyline. It’s unclear whether Dame Judi Dench, who currently narrates the attraction, will return for the reimagined version.

It’s unclear whether the main entrance closure on Thursday is related to the upcoming overhaul of the Spaceship Earth attraction.
