Several operational updates could directly affect how visitors plan their park days. Some involve attractions that won’t be available at all, while others could change depending on when guests arrive, where they spend their time, or how long they can stay in a park.
For anyone visiting Walt Disney World in October, here are seven important changes to keep on your radar.
1. A Magic Kingdom Classic Won’t Be Running
The Walt Disney World Railroad will remain closed as October begins.
The entire railroad temporarily stopped operating on September 28, but is currently scheduled to reopen sometime in November 2026. That means guests visiting during most of October shouldn’t expect to use the train to travel around Magic Kingdom.
The closure also takes away a classic attraction that can double as convenient transportation between different areas of the park.
Guests visiting near the end of October should continue checking Disney’s operating calendar for the latest reopening information.
2. Toy Story Land Has Something New
Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet from Toy Story 5 (2026), officially joined Alien Swirling Saucers on September 25 as part of Lilypad’s Jams.
The character now serves as a DJ for the attraction, introducing a soundtrack featuring remixed Toy Story favorites and original songs.
Guests can also experience some of Lilypad’s entertainment without boarding the attraction, including a doodle-guessing game, word puzzles, and “home videos” featuring familiar Toy Story characters.
For repeat visitors, the update gives a familiar corner of Toy Story Land something different to experience while exploring Andy’s backyard.
3. Be Flexible With This Hollywood Studios Area
There’s another important Hollywood Studios update October guests should keep in mind.
The Magic of Disney Animation area is now in full swing, giving visitors several new experiences to explore. However, guests shouldn’t assume that every part of the area will have the same operating hours every day.
Hours and daily operations can vary, making this one area where flexibility could make a big difference.
Guests should check the My Disney Experience app during their visit and speak with Cast Members if they have questions about what is operating that day.
If Magic of Disney Animation is high on your family’s priority list, don’t leave everything until the final minutes of your Hollywood Studios visit. Checking earlier in the day could prevent an unpleasant surprise later.
4. Tomorrowland Is Missing a Longtime Attraction
Magic Kingdom visitors will also notice a major absence in Tomorrowland.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress remains closed during October as Disney continues work on the attraction.
The attraction shut down in July 2026 for a lengthy update and isn’t expected to welcome guests again until 2027.
That makes October another full month without the longtime Tomorrowland experience. While Magic Kingdom still offers plenty to do, guests who traditionally use Carousel of Progress as a slower indoor break will need another option.
Combined with the railroad closure, that leaves October visitors without two longtime Magic Kingdom experiences.
5. EPCOT Guests Need to Watch the Clock
Most October visitors may expect EPCOT to open at its normal scheduled time, but two dates stand out.
On October 23 and October 25, EPCOT is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. rather than 9 a.m.
A one-hour difference might not sound dramatic, but it can affect an entire touring strategy.
Guests who normally arrive early to tackle popular attractions before crowds build will have less time in the park in the morning. Dining reservations, transportation plans, and park-hopping strategies may also require some adjustment.
Anyone visiting EPCOT on either date should check the latest operating calendar shortly before the trip.
6. Blizzard Beach Remains Down One Slide
The operational changes aren’t limited to Disney World’s four main theme parks.
At Disney’s Blizzard Beach, Slush Gusher remains unavailable heading into October.
The water slide’s continued closure means guests planning a Blizzard Beach day will have one less attraction available during their visit.
For families spending only a few hours at the water park, that may not dramatically alter their plans. Still, anyone specifically hoping to ride Slush Gusher should know about the closure before arriving.
As always, attraction availability can change, so checking Disney’s official app before heading to the water park remains a good idea.
7. Magic Kingdom Hours Dramatically Reduced
Perhaps the biggest October planning issue affects Magic Kingdom.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party continues throughout the month, with events scheduled for October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31.
On those nights, regular daytime Magic Kingdom guests who don’t have a party ticket must leave the park by 6 p.m.
That can significantly shorten a regular park day.
Guests buying standard admission should pay close attention to party dates before selecting their Magic Kingdom day. Families hoping for a full day stretching into the evening may want to consider a non-party date instead.
Party days can still work well with the right strategy, but visitors need to understand the early cutoff before arriving.
What Does This Mean for October Guests?
October remains an exciting time to visit Walt Disney World, but this year requires a little extra planning.
Between attraction closures, changing operating schedules, later EPCOT openings, water park downtime, and frequent Halloween parties cutting Magic Kingdom’s regular hours, assuming every park day will operate normally could create problems.
The easiest solution is to check park hours and attraction availability before each visit rather than relying entirely on plans made weeks earlier.
A little flexibility could go a long way this October. Disney World still has plenty available, but knowing what won’t be operating — and when the parks may operate differently — could be the difference between a smooth vacation and an unexpected disruption.
