Dark Universe has already given Universal Orlando Resort a permanent destination built around its famous lineup of monsters. Now, activity taking place beyond the land’s current boundaries continues to fuel questions about what Universal has planned next.
One of those questions involves the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Something recently spotted inside the expansion area connects Dark Universe with a piece of Universal Studios Florida history that disappeared four years ago.
And for longtime Universal fans, it should look very familiar.
Dark Universe Has Only Started Telling Its Story
Dark Universe opened with Epic Universe in May 2025, finally giving Universal’s classic monsters an entire theme park land of their own.
Guests enter the shadowy village of Darkmoor, where Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolf Man, and other characters have a much larger presence than they have in years at Universal Orlando.
The land includes Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, Curse of the Werewolf, themed dining, character encounters, and plenty of references to Universal’s long history with horror.
But Dark Universe may not remain the size it is today.
Attention has increasingly turned toward an expansion area near the existing land, and Universal’s activity there has opened the door to plenty of possibilities.
The Mystery Beyond Darkmoor Keeps Growing
Universal has not publicly revealed exactly what will occupy the Dark Universe expansion area.
That lack of an announcement hasn’t stopped the rumors.
One of the most persistent possibilities involves a future Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction. The classic monster remains an obvious candidate for a larger role, especially considering how Universal has already embraced several other characters throughout Dark Universe.
No Creature attraction has been confirmed, so any potential ride remains firmly in rumor territory.
Still, the character himself has now appeared in an unexpected place. Even more interestingly, Universal didn’t create this particular version of the Creature for Epic Universe.
It comes from another part of Universal Orlando’s past.
Familiar Monsters Have Suddenly Reappeared
X user “bioreconstruct” recently captured an aerial view of the Dark Universe expansion area, revealing three recognizable pieces of Universal history.
Statues depicting Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon could be seen behind Frankenstein Manor.
Longtime Universal Orlando Resort visitors may immediately recognize them. The three monster statues previously appeared at Universal Studios Florida’s Classic Monsters Cafe, which closed suddenly in May 2022 after more than 20 years of operation.
Minion Cafe later replaced the restaurant as Universal transformed that portion of Universal Studios Florida into Minion Land.
However, Universal apparently didn’t forget about some of the old restaurant’s most recognizable decorations.
The aerial image showed all three statues within the Dark Universe expansion zone, along with dumpsters used to sort and remove materials.
Four years after Classic Monsters Cafe closed, these decades-old Universal icons have made their way back into the world of the monsters.

Could Universal Have Bigger Plans for Them?
Exactly why the statues are sitting inside the expansion area remains unclear.
One possibility is that Universal could reuse them in a future dining location. That would create an interesting connection between Classic Monsters Cafe and Dark Universe while giving longtime fans another piece of Universal Studios Florida nostalgia.
But there is another possibility worth watching.
Permits associated with the expansion have pointed toward an attraction of some kind. If Universal is developing another Dark Universe experience, could these statues eventually become part of its queue, exterior theming, or surrounding environment?
It’s certainly possible, although nothing currently confirms that plan.
They could also simply be stored there temporarily while Universal determines where they belong.
Regardless of their eventual destination, seeing Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and especially the Creature from the Black Lagoon return feels fitting. Dark Universe is exactly the kind of place where these pieces of Universal history belong.
And the timing will only add more fuel to the expansion rumors.
Dark Universe Rumors Go Far Beyond One Monster
The Creature isn’t the only classic monster connected to rumors about Dark Universe’s future.
A Bride of Frankenstein attraction has also been discussed as a possible addition. Another idea making the rounds is an eerie playground or children’s area, which could offer younger Epic Universe visitors another activity in a land currently dominated by darker experiences.
Universal has not confirmed either concept.
Still, the Creature from the Black Lagoon continues to command much of the attention surrounding the expansion. The character has a long history with Universal, yet currently lacks the kind of major attraction presence enjoyed by Frankenstein’s Monster and the Wolf Man.
That makes the unexplained appearance of the old statue particularly interesting.
A Piece of Universal History Finds Its Way Home
For now, fans shouldn’t interpret three statues as confirmation that a Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction is coming.
Universal hasn’t announced one.
Fans can say that pieces of Classic Monsters Cafe have survived the closure of their former home and have now surfaced in Dark Universe’s expansion area.
That’s a pretty remarkable destination for decorations that once greeted diners at Universal Studios Florida.
Whether they become part of a restaurant, appear around a future attraction, or serve another purpose entirely remains to be seen.
But after four years away, the Creature from the Black Lagoon has officially resurfaced at Universal Orlando.
And he couldn’t have picked a more appropriate place to return.
