Epic Universe has only been welcoming guests for a little more than a year, but Universal is already making changes across its newest Orlando theme park.
Some of those changes have involved brief scheduled maintenance, while others have addressed problems that have surfaced through daily operations. Now, one of the park’s biggest Harry Potter attractions has received another adjustment.

This time, Universal isn’t changing how the attraction operates, but there are still notable changes to monitor.
Universal Changes Battle at the Ministry Exit
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry remains one of the biggest draws inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
After roughly a month of work, the attraction has received new tiling in its exit hallway. The replacement flooring doesn’t match the tile surrounding it, making the change noticeable to guests walking out of the attraction.
The new section instead uses a different nonslip pattern and material. Wear and tear likely played a role in Universal choosing something more durable for the replacement.

While flooring certainly isn’t the type of change that will affect most guests’ experience, the timing makes it noteworthy. Battle at the Ministry has only been operating since Epic Universe opened in May 2025.
Universal already needing to replace part of the attraction’s exit flooring shows just how quickly heavily traveled areas can begin showing wear inside a busy theme park.
And Battle at the Ministry has certainly seen plenty of traffic.
Battle at the Ministry Has Faced Bigger Problems
The flooring replacement is far from the biggest issue Universal has faced with Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry.
The attraction originally operated exclusively with a Virtual Queue before Universal eventually moved it to a traditional standby line.
Depending on the day and time, that standby wait can easily climb beyond 100 minutes.
Part of the problem comes down to capacity. Battle at the Ministry isn’t particularly quick to load, which can make it difficult for the attraction to move large numbers of guests through the queue.
Downtime has complicated matters even further.
The attraction has developed a reputation for occasionally breaking down, creating additional problems for an experience that already struggles with lengthy waits.
That combination has made Battle at the Ministry one of Epic Universe’s more troublesome attractions, despite also being one of its most impressive.
Unlike replacing flooring, however, those operational problems don’t necessarily come with quick solutions. Increasing capacity or addressing accessibility concerns can require much more significant changes than replacing worn materials.
For now, Universal continues addressing the issues it can fix without fundamentally altering the attraction.

Epic Universe Is Entering Its Refurbishment Era
Battle at the Ministry isn’t the only Epic Universe attraction that has already needed some attention.
The park has begun cycling through its first scheduled attraction refurbishments.
Yoshi’s Adventure, Mine-Cart Madness featuring Donkey Kong, and Viking Training Camp all underwent brief refurbishments this past spring. None required an extended shutdown, but they marked an important milestone for a park that was still brand-new only a year earlier.
The next closures will take place inside How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
The Untrainable Dragon will temporarily close from September 15 through September 20, 2026.
Guests will encounter another closure a few months later. Fyre Drill is scheduled to undergo maintenance from January 25 through February 4, 2027.
These kinds of refurbishments are a normal part of operating a major theme park. Attractions run for hours every day while thousands of guests interact with ride vehicles, queues, walkways, play areas, and other physical elements.
Even a new park eventually needs maintenance.
Universal Continues Addressing Epic Universe’s Growing Pains
Epic Universe’s first year and few months have shown that even a brand-new theme park isn’t immune to operational headaches.
Universal has addressed many problems as they have emerged, whether that means changing procedures, completing repairs, replacing materials, or scheduling brief attraction closures.
Other challenges aren’t nearly as simple.
Capacity remains one of the biggest concerns for certain experiences, particularly something as popular as Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. Accessibility issues can also require more complicated solutions than the routine maintenance guests are now beginning to see around the park.
The new flooring inside Battle at the Ministry’s exit won’t change the attraction itself. Most visitors probably won’t give it much thought as they walk through the hallway.
Still, it’s another example of Universal adjusting Epic Universe as the park moves beyond its opening phase.
After just over a year of operation, the focus isn’t simply on keeping everything looking brand-new anymore. Universal now has to maintain a massive theme park under real-world conditions, and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is already showing how quickly those maintenance needs can appear.
