The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort is under an intense period of evolution. Only recently have the famed spires of Cinderella Castle been repainted, ushering in a new icon era for the beloved–and most visited–theme park. Over in Frontierland, the bulk of the work can be seen, with the removal of the Rivers of America and the upcoming arrival of the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park. Beyond that development, work is underway on establishing the highly anticipated Villains Land area.
Both of these projects are expected to be discussed at the upcoming D23 event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. On Saturday, August 15, Neil Patrick Harris will host the Horizons: Disney Experiences showcase, where the House of Mouse will share more information about the projects it revealed two years ago at D23 2024.
“Building on the ambitious projects announced in 2024, this year’s showcase will take fans deeper into the creative vision behind what’s to come, hearing directly from the Imagineers, storytellers, artists, and innovators bringing these experiences to life,” the official event synopsis reads. “Inspired by the Carousel of Progress, Neil will guide the show and lead engaging conversations with the people creating the future of Disney Experiences—complete with behind-the-scenes looks, special performances, exciting announcements, and a few surprises along the way.”
But the Disney Experiences team won’t just be talking about the changes inside the theme park gates, but also what is happening in the wider Walt Disney World Resort, as well as all the parks and cruises around the world. For Disney World, though, another major change is happening in the Magic Kingdom Resort area.
Walt Disney World’s newest resort is coming into focus, and the latest updates paint a vivid picture of what guests can expect when Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge opens on the shores of Bay Lake in the Magic Kingdom Resort area in summer 2027. But there’s been a change. And only eagle-eyed fans will have noticed.
The new resort has been renamed. No longer will it be Disney Lakeshore Lodge, but Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge. And it isn’t the first time the project has been changed. Located on the former site of Disney’s River Country on Bay Lake, Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge was originally conceived under the name Reflections–A Disney Lakeside Lodge.
Trademark filing details straight from the USPTO record (via WDWMagic) reveal the name change.
The application, assigned US Serial Number 50043700, was filed on August 11, 2026, and lists the mark simply as “DISNEY’S LAKESHORE LODGE” — a standard character mark with no specific font, size, or color claimed. It’s filed on the Principal Register as a service mark, and per the USPTO’s own status descriptor, the filing has cleared minimum requirements but has not yet been assigned to an examining attorney. Translation: it’s real, it’s live, but it’s still sitting in the queue.
The “Goods and Services” section spells out exactly what the trademark is meant to protect: restaurant services, resort lodging services, and hotel accommodation services, filed under the active International Class 043 Status.
None of this reads as anything Disney did casually. Service marks covering hospitality and dining are standard groundwork ahead of a resort opening, and the paperwork aligns with the pattern seen across the company’s other resort brands — Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort all carry the same possessive structure. “Disney Lakeshore Lodge,” by comparison, was always the odd one out.
Combine the filing with Disney Parks Blog quietly swapping its own past coverage over to the new name, and the direction is about as clear as it gets — even without a formal word from Disney itself.
The 967-room waterfront retreat draws its identity from Walt Disney’s own love of the outdoors, weaving nods to Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear into its architecture and design. That inspiration is most visible in the lobby, where a fiberoptic “river” floor and a blown-glass “Colors of the Wind” sculpture set the tone before guests even reach their rooms, which range from cozy studios to new one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses along the water’s edge.
Dining will span three distinct venues: the table-service Moonglade, offering lakefront views with every course; the quick-service Bay Lake Provisions for grab-and-go fare; and Paint Out Point Bar & Grill, a poolside spot inspired by plein-air painting. After dark, Dandelion Terrace promises front-row views of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks alongside a gallery of archival Fantasia artwork.
Outdoors, The Wetlands recreation area will anchor the resort’s family appeal, with the zero-entry Lakeshore Lagoon and its spiral waterslide, the lazy Daydream River, and play zones like Heron Shores and Otter Springs. A second pool area, Cypress Point, offers a quieter alternative with its own fireworks sightlines.
One intriguing detail: a plaque along the resort’s nature trail will honor a “beloved historic attraction” once located on the site — its identity still unconfirmed. As Imagineers continue rolling out details through Disney’s “Letters from Lakeshore” series, expect more reveals in the months (or days) ahead.
