Credit: Haydn Blackey, FlickrWalt Disney World Resort has covered up even more of the facade of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s the latest update on the ongoing exterior refurbishment of the 32-year-old drop ride.
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Construction
In May, Walt Disney World Resort refurbished the queue for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction. When that project wrapped up, the first signs of more construction appeared: flags above the gift shop were removed, and scrim was installed over decorative elements on the building.
Walt Disney World Resort installed scaffolding above the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror gift shop in early July. Over the past month, the construction materials have wrapped around the right side of the building. Just days ago, the scaffolding began to crawl up the front of the attraction toward the “Hollywood Tower Hotel” sign.
Now, more scaffolding has appeared on the front of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. On August 12, WDWNT reported that the scaffolding had extended across the left side of the building, past the drop shaft. The outlet shared this photo on social media:
Despite repeated extensions, the scaffolding still doesn’t block the view for theme park guests when the elevator windows open during the drop ride.
What is Disney Doing?
The scaffolding on the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade appears to be supporting Disney cast members as they repaint the building. In areas where the scaffolding was first installed, the pink paint appears much fresher and brighter. It has yet to receive the intentionally aged and worn treatment that the building is known for.
Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any upcoming refurbishment closures for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, so the ongoing maintenance work is likely to remain limited to the outside of the attraction and not impact any interior ride mechanisms.
