Halloween season is officially underway at Walt Disney World. The weather did not get the memo.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party held its first night on August 7, which means Magic Kingdom is now handing out candy, running Halloween overlays, and selling pumpkin-shaped everything. Merchandise is out. The Boo-To-You Parade is running. Cast members are in Halloween costumes.

And it is 95 degrees outside.
This is the annual Central Florida contradiction that visitors from cooler climates never quite prepare for. Halloween in Orlando does not arrive with crisp air and falling leaves. It arrives in the back half of hurricane season, in humidity thick enough to feel like a physical object, with several more weeks of genuinely dangerous heat still ahead. September is not a relief month here. October is when things finally start to turn.
Today is a good example of exactly that, and it is worth taking seriously if you are heading into the parks.
Heat Advisory in Effect for the Walt Disney World Area
A heat advisory is in effect for the Walt Disney World area today, August 11, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne says heat index values will reach 105 to 110 degrees across east central Florida, including Orange and Osceola counties.
Highs today will land in the low to mid 90s. Combined with high humidity, that pushes the heat index into advisory territory through the afternoon and evening.
Here are the specifics:
- When: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, August 11
- Where: All of east central Florida, including the Orlando area
- Heat index: Up to 110 degrees
- Severity: Moderate, with a possible threat to life or property
That last line is not standard boilerplate. Heat is consistently one of the deadliest weather categories in the country, and it does not announce itself the way a storm does.

What the National Weather Service Recommends
The guidance is basic, and it works.
- Drink water before you feel thirsty
- Take breaks in air conditioning or shade
- Wear light, loose clothing
- Never leave kids or pets in a parked car
The first one deserves emphasis. By the time you feel thirsty in this kind of heat, you are already behind. Drinking on a schedule rather than on demand is the practical version of this advice.
Also worth remembering: free cups of ice water are available at any quick-service location at Walt Disney World. You do not need to buy bottled water all day.
Where to Cool Down at Disney World
Walt Disney World has plenty of indoor air conditioning, water fountains, and shaded areas throughout each park. If you start to feel overheated, head indoors to an attraction, restaurant, or shop until you cool down.
A few reliable options by park:
- Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Hall of Presidents, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
- EPCOT: Spaceship Earth, the American Adventure, Living with the Land, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, and more
- Hollywood Studios: Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, Walt Disney Presents, indoor queues at Tower of Terror and Rise of the Resistance
- Animal Kingdom: Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, Conservation Station, Festival of the Lion King, and indoor seating at restaurants

Long indoor shows are your friend on a day like this. Carousel of Progress is roughly 21 minutes of sitting in air conditioning, which is exactly what your body needs in the middle of the afternoon, but unfortunately, that show is currently closed. Your next best bet is the Country Bear Musical Jamboree.
This Is Not a One Day Situation
If you are visiting this week, this matters for planning beyond today.
The Weather Service says hot and humid conditions will continue through at least Friday, with heat index values reaching near advisory criteria each afternoon.
A drier air mass is limiting rain chances this week, which usually cuts down on the afternoon storms that knock the heat index back a bit. So the typical Central Florida pattern, where a 3 p.m. thunderstorm briefly cools things off, may not show up.
The heat wave is expected to continue into the weekend and early next week, with highs staying in the low to mid 90s and a moderate to major Heat Risk each day.
How to Plan Around It at Disney World
Build midday breaks into your day rather than hoping you can push through.
The hottest stretch runs roughly from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Consider scheduling water rides, indoor attractions, or table-service meals during that window. A long lunch reservation in air conditioning is not a wasted hour on a day like today; it is a legitimate strategy.

If you have a Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ticket for a night this week, that actually works in your favor. Party ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom at 4 p.m., which means you can skip the worst of the afternoon entirely and still get up to eight hours in the park.
For anyone attending in costume, factor the heat into your choice of attire. Full costumes in a 110-degree heat index are a genuinely bad idea, and the party runs through October 31, when conditions will be far more forgiving.
Relief Is Coming, Eventually
The honest timeline for Central Florida is that August and September are both brutal, and real relief tends to arrive sometime in October.
That is worth knowing if you are booking a Halloween season trip. Late October party dates offer better weather than August ones, meaningfully, even though the event content is largely the same.
For today, take the advisory seriously. Drink more water than you think you need, get inside regularly, wear sunscreen, and pay attention to how you and the people you are traveling with are actually feeling.
Halloween may be here. Summer very much is not over.
