Credit: DisneyDisney World isn’t slowing down when it comes to construction. Across the resort, crews are building entirely new lands, reimagining classic attractions, renovating hotels, and updating restaurants as Disney continues one of its busiest periods of expansion in years.
Many of these projects are exciting because they’ll eventually give guests new places to explore. In the meantime, though, they could temporarily affect your vacation through attraction closures, construction walls, rerouted walkways, unavailable amenities, or changes around Disney resorts.
If you’re visiting Walt Disney World anytime soon, here are 16 of the biggest construction projects currently underway.
Hollywood Studios Has 2 Major Projects Underway
Disney’s Hollywood Studios continues to evolve, with two of the resort’s most significant projects taking shape.
The first is the Walt Disney Studios area. Disney has confirmed that The Magic of Disney Animation will open inside the new space on September 14, 2026. Until then, guests can expect ongoing construction in that section of the park.
The second major project is Monstropolis. Disney has confirmed that the new Monsters, Inc.-themed land will feature the long-awaited suspended-door coaster, along with themed dining, shopping, and attractions. Construction remains underway on one of Hollywood Studios’ biggest future expansions.
Magic Kingdom Leads the Way With 4 Massive Construction Projects
No park has more high-profile construction than Magic Kingdom.
Villains Land remains one of Disney’s most anticipated expansions. Disney has confirmed the new land will include two major attractions, themed dining, shopping, and an entirely new environment dedicated to Disney’s iconic villains. While guests can’t yet see much of the work, construction continues behind the scenes.
Nearby, work is also progressing on Piston Peak National Park, the Cars-inspired expansion replacing Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Both attractions are permanently closed to make way for the project, and construction is now well underway.
Elsewhere in the park, Big Top Souvenirs remains closed for refurbishment. Disney has said the merchandise location is expected to reopen later in 2026, although an exact reopening date has not been announced.
Another noticeable closure is Carousel of Progress. The Tomorrowland attraction closed on July 6, 2026, for one of its most extensive refurbishments ever. Disney has confirmed it is expected to reopen in 2027 with updated show scenes and a new pre-show.
EPCOT Still Has 2 Active Refurbishments
While EPCOT has completed many of its recent transformation projects, construction hasn’t completely disappeared.
La Signature in the France Pavilion closed for refurbishment in late June 2026. Disney has indicated the shop is expected to reopen later this year, though it has not announced a specific reopening date.
The Germany Pavilion is also undergoing refurbishment work. While the pavilion remains open to guests, construction walls and temporary adjustments may be visible depending on the area under construction.
Animal Kingdom’s Biggest Expansion Includes 1 Massive Project
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is preparing for one of the largest changes in the park’s history.
Construction continues on Tropical Americas, officially known as Pueblo Esperanza. The project officially moved forward after DinoLand U.S.A. permanently closed on February 2, 2026. Disney has confirmed the new land will feature attractions inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones, creating an entirely new themed area for the park.
Disney Resorts Account for 5 More Construction Projects
The parks aren’t the only places where guests may encounter construction.
Disney’s BoardWalk said goodbye to Jellyrolls back in 2025, leaving noticeable changes along the BoardWalk. Now, Disney is working hard to gut the area and possibly build a new venue.
At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, work continues around transportation areas, including improvements affecting the resort’s boat dock.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa also remains in the middle of its multi-year refurbishment. One of the most visible projects continues at the resort’s porte cochère, where guests may notice construction during arrival and departure.
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort is temporarily without the Turf Club Lounge while it undergoes refurbishment. Disney expects the lounge to reopen in late August 2026, with additional work continuing in phases afterward.
Guests staying at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort may also encounter construction as refurbishment work continues throughout the building.
The Final 2 Projects
Construction isn’t limited to attractions and hotels. It can also affect dining and transportation.
Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort closed on May 11, 2026, for refurbishment. Disney has said the signature restaurant is expected to reopen in August 2026.
Meanwhile, Disney’s Old Key West Resort continues work around its boat dock. Depending on when guests visit, transportation procedures may be adjusted while improvements are completed.
More Projects Are Still on the Way
These 16 projects represent some of the largest construction efforts underway across Walt Disney World, but they aren’t the only ones. Additional refurbishments, maintenance projects, and infrastructure upgrades continue throughout the resort, meaning guests may encounter even more work during their visit.
Most of these temporary inconveniences are paving the way for exciting additions and refreshed experiences, and knowing what’s under construction before your trip can help you avoid surprises and set realistic expectations.
