After months of speculation, the studio officially revealed Sadie Sink’s mysterious character, giving the Marvel Cinematic Universe an important new mutant just as Phase 6 continues to take shape.
That reveal immediately sparked another round of questions. With Marvel already building toward an X-Men reboot expected around 2028 and a fourth Deadpool film reportedly on the horizon, viewers are wondering where this newly introduced mutant could appear next. Nothing has been confirmed beyond Sink’s current role, but the ending of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already inspired plenty of theories about where Marvel could be heading.
Jean Grey Arrives in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The film confirms that Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ending months of rumors surrounding Sink’s casting.
Rather than introducing her through Professor X or another established mutant, Marvel gives Jean her own emotional storyline. After Damage Control kidnaps her older sister, Sara Grey, and begins experimenting on her, Jean launches an attack against the organization in an attempt to rescue her.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) doesn’t initially understand what’s happening. Believing Jean is responsible for the violence, he turns her over to Damage Control before eventually learning the truth. Once Peter realizes what happened to Sara, he helps Jean escape, and the two work together to stop Damage Control’s plans.
By the end of the movie, Jean has gone her own way. The last time audiences see her, she’s riding a bus toward an unknown destination after helping save Peter.
Marvel never explains where she’s headed, but many fans believe the final scene could hint at Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The movie doesn’t confirm that theory, yet the ending leaves enough room for audiences to connect the dots themselves.
Could Marvel Be Saving the Next Generation for the MCU’s X-Men?
One interesting detail has caught fans’ attention following the movie’s release.
As of now, Sink has not been officially announced for Avengers: Doomsday. At the same time, Marvel has already confirmed several returning stars from Fox’s X-Men movies, including Cyclops (James Marsden), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).
Notably absent from those announcements are Jean Grey, Storm, and Rogue.
Of course, Marvel could still have surprises planned. The studio has built its reputation on keeping major casting decisions secret until audiences are sitting in theaters. Even so, the current lineup has led some fans to wonder whether Avengers: Doomsday will primarily spotlight the veteran Fox-era heroes while saving several iconic female mutants for Marvel’s eventual X-Men reboot.
That remains speculation, but it would create a clear distinction between the returning legacy cast and the MCU’s new generation.
A Younger Jean Grey Could Shape Marvel’s Mutant Future
Another reason fans are looking ahead is Jean’s age.
Sink’s version of the character is portrayed as a teenager, suggesting Marvel isn’t simply replacing the Fox version with another adult Jean Grey. Instead, the studio appears to be laying the foundation for a much younger generation of mutants.
If that’s the plan, Jean may eventually be joined by similarly young versions of Storm, Rogue, Cyclops, and other familiar X-Men characters.
That possibility has fueled even more fan discussion. Ryan Coogler has supposedly been involved in casting Storm for the MCU, leading to speculation that the weather-controlling mutant could debut in Black Panther 3. Meanwhile, Rogue’s first MCU appearance remains a mystery, though some fans have suggested she could arrive in Deadpool 4 as a misunderstood antagonist before eventually becoming one of the heroes.
Marvel has confirmed none of those ideas, but they align with the growing belief that the studio is slowly assembling its long-term mutant roster rather than introducing everyone at once.
Could Deadpool Become a Bridge Between Generations?
If Deadpool 4 moves forward as many expect, it could provide another opportunity to introduce younger mutants before the standalone X-Men movie arrives.
Previous Deadpool films have already shown that Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) works well alongside younger characters. Firefist (Julian Dennison) played a major role in Deadpool 2 (2018), while Laura Kinney/X-23 (Dafne Keen) became one of the emotional centerpieces of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
Because of that history, some fans believe Jean Grey or other teenage mutants could appear alongside Deadpool in supporting roles. Others think Marvel may simply use the film for brief introductions or cameos that help set up future stories.
Right now, there isn’t any evidence confirming Jean will appear in Deadpool 4. Still, Marvel has frequently used crossover appearances to introduce important characters before giving them larger roles later. If the studio wants to continue building excitement for its mutant franchise, a project starring Deadpool could certainly provide another logical stepping stone.
What Comes Next for Sadie Sink?
Beyond Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel has not officially announced Sink for Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or the upcoming X-Men movie.
That doesn’t necessarily mean she won’t appear before Marvel’s mutant reboot arrives.
Marvel Studios has repeatedly surprised audiences by hiding major cameos, post-credit scenes, and even entire cast members until release day. It’s entirely possible Sink could make a brief appearance somewhere during Phase 6 without being included in official marketing.
For now, though, the safest assumption is that Jean Grey’s biggest future role will likely come whenever Marvel officially launches its new X-Men team. Until the studio makes those announcements, every other appearance remains firmly in the realm of fan speculation.
Marvel Has Plenty of Options
Marvel answered one major question by confirming that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey. At the same time, Spider-Man: Brand New Day intentionally leaves several new mysteries behind.
Whether Jean’s journey eventually leads to Charles Xavier’s school, a future Deadpool adventure, or Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot, the possibilities are already sparking plenty of debate among fans. Nothing beyond her MCU debut has been officially confirmed, but the movie clearly positions Jean Grey as a character with an important future.
Now it’s simply a matter of waiting to see which path Marvel chooses next.
