Credit: Marvel StudiosMarvel and Disney are not moving forward with a new season of what would have been the next project inspired by the iconic Invincible Iron Man: Iron Man and His Awesome Friends. According to a co-executive producer, the animated television series has been canceled after just one season. Disney says it will evolve into a new series focused on the young Avengers.

On July 18, co-executive producer and story editor for Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, James Eason-Garcia, announced that the Disney Junior animated series would not continue after just one season. Eason-Garcia shared the news in an Instagram post, writing that it was “a wrap” on the project he originally conceived in 2022:
And that’s a wrap! On February 22, 2022, I started writing my pitch for an animated preschool series based on Iron Man. While of course I had high hopes for my ideas, what I couldn’t have planned on was the totally awesome journey I was starting that would last the next four years. I have learned so much, grown even more as a creator and a leader, and found strength in myself I didn’t know I had. Mostly thanks to the amazing creative partners who have been by my side each and every day. The list of people I have to thank would be too long to type out here but everyone knows how much they have mattered to me in helping this series come to life (because I make sure to tell them every chance I get!) In all, we produced eighty 11-minute stories and 20 shorts, telling the adventures of the Iron Friends and the misadventures of their hilarious rogues gallery. We really wanted to create a series that showed kids that no matter what problem you faced, it was only a challenge that was easier to overcome with friends by your side. What I’m most proud of is that we accomplished this on the show itself and behind the scenes. No matter the problems we encountered, I was lucky enough to have a fantastic crew of friends by my side to tackle each and every challenge. That joy, happiness, and camaraderie comes across on each and every frame of animation. And for that, I could not be more grateful. It’s a bittersweet day for sure, but I’m excited to see what new challenges there are to tackle and all the cool people I will get to face them with in the future. There are still plenty of episodes left to be released so fans of the show have much more of this wonderful series left to enjoy. Iron Man and His Awesome Friends premiered on Disney Jr. on August 11, 2025, and was available on Disney+ the next day. Younger versions of Tony Stark (Iron Man), Riri Williams (Ironheart), and Amadeus Cho (Iron Hulk) operated out of a beachfront headquarters called Iron Quarter. Alongside their super pup Gamma (Iron Pup), the Iron Friends used their genius minds and superhuman abilities to solve problems and save the city.
Disney has said the series’ will “evolve” into a new show called Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends.
More Tony Stark on the Way
The end of Marvel’s Iron Man and His Awesome Friends isn’t the end for the Invincible Iron Man. Marvel Studios and Disney have announced the 2027 premiere of another animated series featuring Tony Stark: Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends. Disney has described the show as an “evolution” of the Iron Man series. It will debut on Disney Junior and Disney+ sometime in 2027.
Several production members and creatives behind Iron Man and His Awesome Friends are helping develop Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends. The show will feature child versions of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Panther, Black Widow, and Thor teaming up against some of the most iconic villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The new versions of the characters have already teamed up with young Spider-Man from Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends, with a special called Marvel’s Spidey and Iron Man: Avengers Team-Up!. Another Halloween-themed crossover is scheduled to premiere this fall.
Rumors are always swirling about the potential for another film starring the most iconic version of Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr. For now, though, Downey Jr. is set to star in a new role, Doctor Doom, in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026). The highly anticipated Marvel Studios film premieres on December 18. Watch the trailer below.
