If you’ve ever embarked on a road trip to Walt Disney World, you might find that the most daunting attraction in Orlando isn’t one that you can find on any official park map. Instead, it’s the notorious Interstate 4. This major highway serves as the primary artery for the millions of eager visitors making their way to the most magical place on Earth. Renowned for its chaotic atmosphere, I-4 is a bustling thoroughfare where the confident pace of local drivers collides with the often distracted nature of tourists scanning for exit signs at a swift 65 miles per hour. To complicate matters further, you’ll encounter rental cars making last-minute lane changes, adding to the overall intensity of this highway experience.
The pressure of navigating I-4 can be overwhelming, and it’s crucial to acknowledge the potential repercussions that come with even the slightest miscalculation. A wrong turn or a sudden stop could result in a fender bender, the loss of a precious park reservation, or worse—kicking off your much-anticipated vacation with a frustrating phone call to your insurance provider instead of indulging in a warm, delicious Mickey pretzel.
Given this backdrop, any change to one of the most significant exits on this busy highway requires your undivided attention, especially if you frequently drive to Disney or are staying off property and relying on I-4 to access the parks. This recent alteration has already created confusion among many locals, and it’s sure to bewilder those unfamiliar with the intricacies of Orlando’s roadways. If you miss the new exit, you may find yourself detouring through less-traveled scenic routes, which could add extra travel time and annoyance to your journey. Therefore, staying informed about these changes is essential for a stress-free trip to one of the world’s most beloved destinations.

Exit 62 Has Permanently Split Into 62A and 62B
Florida’s Moving I-4 Forward program has released a new graphic confirming that the eastbound I-4 exit at World Drive and State Road 417, known as Exit 62, has been permanently split into two ramps, labeled 62A and 62B.
Here is how it used to work. Drivers took a single exit off I-4 eastbound to reach World Drive, and additional ramps beyond it sorted everyone toward their destination. Under the new configuration, that single exit divides into two distinct ramps on the highway itself. Exit 62A peels off first and carries traffic to World Drive southbound. Exit 62B follows a little further down the road and carries traffic to World Drive northbound and, eventually, S.R. 417 northbound.
The two ramps are permanently separated, which means the decision now happens earlier and there is no sorting things out after you exit. Drivers on I-4 eastbound will want to learn this change now, before the moment of truth arrives at highway speed.

🚧Motorists are advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to reconfigure the eastbound I-4 exit ramps for Exit 62, World Drive and State Road (S.R.) 417.

Which Exit Disney World Guests Actually Want
For nearly everyone headed to Walt Disney World, the answer is Exit 62B. World Drive northbound is the route into the resort, leading toward all the theme parks and resort areas. Visitors driving in from the Lakeland and Tampa direction should plan on 62B and let 62A pass by.
Exit 62A serves World Drive southbound, which guests would generally only use for destinations off property. Taking 62A by mistake is not a vacation ender, since it is possible to work your way back toward Disney, but it is an inconvenient detour nobody wants at the start of a park day. Once you take 62B, the drive up World Drive through the heart of Walt Disney World will feel familiar.
One important clarification: this ramp split is a state project under Moving I-4 Forward, completely separate from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s ongoing World Drive North project. That long-running effort has been widening World Drive and Floridian Way between the Magic Kingdom toll plaza and the Grand Floridian and Polynesian area, and it was recently delayed by roughly 15 months to a new late-2027 completion date.
More July Closures to Watch on I-4 Set to Impact Disney World
The exit split is not the only construction activity that could complicate a Disney drive this month. Moving I-4 Forward has published a traffic advisory covering scheduled closures from July 12 through 26, and several hit the roads Disney guests use most.
Nightly ramp closures are affecting the I-4 westbound off-ramp to S.R. 429 in multiple windows, including July 14 through 16 and again July 19 through 24, from roughly 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. A traffic shift on I-4 westbound at World Drive runs overnight July 14 through 16, and ramp closures affecting S.R. 417 southbound to I-4 westbound and I-4 westbound to World Drive follow on July 16 and 17.

The biggest one comes July 19 into 20, when all lanes of I-4 eastbound from World Drive to U.S. 192 fully close overnight from midnight to 5 a.m., along with the eastbound off-ramp to S.R. 417 northbound. The I-4 eastbound off-ramps to World Drive will remain open during that closure, and posted detours route drivers through World Drive and U.S. 192. Full detour details are available on the Moving I-4 Forward construction updates page.
The takeaway for anyone driving to Disney: know your exit, expect overnight quirks through late July, and give yourself a buffer. On I-4, the smoothest ride belongs to the driver who already knows where the road is going.
