The new DC Universe from James Gunn and Peter Safran is ready to launch its second film: Supergirl (2026), starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl.

However, according to early box office projections reported by Box Office Theory (shared by numerous outlets), Supergirl is expected to have a soft box office debut. Watch the trailer:

“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice,” the official description for the film states.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, the film releases in theaters on June 26.

Other Upcoming DCU Movies

Looking further ahead, Man of Tomorrow (2027), a sequel to Superman (2025), is also in development, with David Corenswet set to return as the Man of Steel alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. That film, which will see Gunn return to the director’s chair after he helmed last year’s franchise-opener, is scheduled to fly into theaters worldwide on July 9 next year.

One of the more closely watched DCU projects is The Brave and the Bold (TBA).

The Batman reboot is being directed by Andy Muschietti (2023’s The Flash) and is expected to introduce a new actor as the Dark Knight. However, Warner Bros. and DC Studios have yet to announce a cast or a release date. That said, we have had our first look at the DCU’s Gotham City.

A New DCU Batman Movie

While we’re getting a new Supergirl movie in less than two weeks, another film is emerging as one of the DCU’s most talked-about upcoming projects.

Clayface (2026), directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and described as “a body horror,” follows struggling Gotham actor Matt Hagen, who becomes the titular, shape-shifting Batman villain after a horrifying incident.

Early footage was revealed at CinemaCon in April, and DC later released promotional images across social media in the form of in-universe magazine covers (Gotham Gazette and Gotham Medical), which showed actor Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen under the headline “Rising Star,” marking the first official look at the Rogues’ Gallery villain before his transformation.

But when the first trailer for the film dropped, the faces on those covers, which suddenly read “Actor Matt Hagen Brutally Attacked!”, had “melted” to foreshadow Hagen’s transformation.

In a recent interview with Club Ciné (via Comicbookmovie.com), Tom Rhys Harries talked about his upcoming role, describing the film as “meta” and how Clayface is a “standalone” DCU movie.

“I’ve been a huge Mike Flanagan fan for as long as I’ve been watching film and TV,” Harries said of the acclaimed writer, before praising the film’s second scribe. “Hossein Amini has built on what was a foundational script that works as a complete standalone within an extended world.”

“The script is pretty meta in many ways – I’m an actor playing an actor. And you can get granular with that,” he said. But he was unable to reveal much, explaining, “That’s all I think I can say.”

Whether the new Batman actor will make an appearance in the film remains to be seen.

Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, and David Dencik. The film is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.
