Universal Orlando Resort fans are about to lose several locations that have quietly become part of the vacation routine for thousands of guests over the years. While Epic Universe continues to grab headlines and new attractions keep arriving across the resort, Universal has officially confirmed that multiple longtime spots are already shutting down or preparing to close permanently in the near future.
And the situation is bigger than many guests may realize.
Some of these locations were more than just quick-service restaurants. They served as reliable break spots during packed theme park days, easy meal options for families trying to avoid long waits, or nostalgic staples that guests visited on every trip. Now, several of those familiar places are disappearing as Universal continues to transform its parks rapidly.
For longtime visitors, the closures are starting to create a very different feel around the resort.

A Jurassic Park Staple Is Officially Closing
One of the biggest upcoming losses will hit Islands of Adventure when Thunder Falls Terrace officially closes sometime during summer 2026.
For many guests, Thunder Falls Terrace became one of the most dependable dining spots anywhere inside Universal Orlando Resort. Located directly beside Jurassic Park River Adventure, the restaurant offered guests something Universal does not always consistently offer across its parks: a relatively quiet place to sit down and cool off while still staying immersed in the land’s atmosphere.
Families loved using it as a mid-day reset location. Guests could watch boats splash down from Jurassic Park River Adventure while escaping the crowds that often build across Islands of Adventure during busy afternoons. The covered seating alone made it popular during Florida’s brutal summer weather.
The restaurant also became known for serving larger portions compared to some of Universal’s other quick-service locations. That made it especially attractive for families looking to avoid spending heavily on multiple snack stops throughout the day.
Its closure matters because Jurassic Park has already lost several pieces of its older identity over the years. While Jurassic World elements slowly continue to move into the area, Thunder Falls Terrace represented one of the last remaining pieces that still felt closely tied to the original Jurassic Park atmosphere many longtime fans grew up loving.

Mythos Restaurant Closing in 2027 Changes Islands of Adventure Forever
If Thunder Falls Terrace closing feels surprising, the future closure of Mythos Restaurant may hit even harder for longtime Universal Orlando Resort fans.
Universal has confirmed that Mythos will close in 2027, ending the run of what many guests still consider the single best theme park restaurant Universal ever created.
For years, Mythos helped separate Universal from the old criticism that its parks lacked quality dining compared to Disney World. The restaurant consistently earned praise for its atmosphere, unique menu, and full-service experience inside a theme park environment that often leaned heavily on burgers, pizza, and quick-service meals.
Located within The Lost Continent, Mythos became one of the defining landmarks of Islands of Adventure. Even guests who had never been there recognized the massive rockwork exterior and waterfall setting as they walked through the park.
The closure also signals something much larger is happening at Universal Orlando Resort.
The Lost Continent continues slowly disappearing piece by piece. Poseidon’s Fury already closed permanently back in 2023. Construction continues to change parts of the area, and more guests now spend their time moving directly between Hogsmeade and other Epic Universe-related excitement around the resort.
Still, Mythos remained one of the final anchors keeping some life inside that original Islands of Adventure section.
For many longtime Universal fans, Mythos represents the era when Islands of Adventure first opened and truly felt different from every other theme park in Florida. Once it disappears, another major piece of that original park lineup goes with it.

Burger King’s Exit Quietly Removed a Major Convenience for Guests
Earlier in April 2026, Burger King officially disappeared from Universal CityWalk, ending one of the resort’s simplest and most convenient food options.
At first glance, some guests may not think much about losing a fast-food chain inside a destination packed with themed restaurants and specialty dining. But the closure actually removed something incredibly useful for budget-conscious travelers.
Burger King offered quick, familiar meals at lower prices than those at many CityWalk locations. Families leaving the parks late at night often stopped there because it offered quick service without requiring reservations or expensive sit-down meals, after already spending heavily in the parks all day.
The location also worked well for guests staying at nearby hotels who wanted something quick before heading back to their rooms.
Its closure continues a growing trend around Universal Orlando. More affordable, simple dining choices are slowly disappearing while newer offerings lean further into immersive experiences, upscale dining, and heavily themed restaurants.

Guests Still Have Plenty of Popular Dining Spots To Choose From
Even with these closures arriving, Universal Orlando Resort still offers some of the strongest theme park dining options anywhere in Florida.
CityWalk continues serving as one of the resort’s biggest strengths, especially at night. Locations like Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, Voodoo Doughnut, NBC Sports Grill & Brew, and Antojitos remain hugely popular with guests looking for sit-down meals or quick desserts after leaving the parks.
Inside Islands of Adventure, guests still flock toward spots like Green Eggs and Ham Cafe, Three Broomsticks, and Confisco Grille throughout the day.
Universal Studios Florida also continues drawing strong crowds to restaurants like Leaky Cauldron, Mel’s Drive-In, and Lombard’s Seafood Grille.
Epic Universe has expanded the resort’s food lineup even further with heavily themed dining inside Celestial Park, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, and the Ministry of Magic area.
The bigger concern for many longtime fans is what these closures represent overall. More original Universal experiences continue to disappear as newer concepts gradually replace them.

Universal Orlando Is Entering a Very Different Era
For years, Universal Orlando balanced nostalgia with expansion. Guests could still experience pieces of the original Islands of Adventure while also enjoying massive new additions like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Epic Universe.
Now, though, many of those older staples are disappearing faster than ever.
Thunder Falls Terrace, Mythos, and even smaller closures like Burger King may seem unrelated on the surface. Still, together they paint a pretty clear picture of where Universal Orlando Resort is heading next.
The resort wants bigger intellectual properties, more premium experiences, and newer offerings designed to keep guests staying longer and spending more throughout their vacations.
For newer visitors, that may not feel like a problem at all.
For longtime fans, however, the next few years may bring a surprising amount of change to places that once felt permanent.
