If Walt Disney World has felt a little calmer on certain days lately, that may not last much longer.
Disney is entering one of the biggest transition periods the resort has seen in years, and all signs point toward much heavier crowds arriving over the next several weeks. Between major discounts, brand-new entertainment, limited-time summer offerings, high-demand attraction updates, and exclusive Annual Passholder perks, Disney World is suddenly stacking reason after reason for people to book trips right now.

And honestly, it feels intentional.
Disney has spent the past few years trying to balance pricing concerns, attendance shifts, construction projects, and growing competition from Universal Orlando. But summer 2026 looks very different. Instead of slowing things down, Disney is adding new experiences almost everywhere guests turn — and many of them are arriving at the exact same time.
That combination could create some seriously busy parks heading into late May and the rest of the summer season.
Disney’s Summer Strategy Is Starting To Become Clear
For a while, many fans questioned whether Disney was trying to scale back demand. Ticket prices climbed. Lightning Lane costs increased during peak travel periods. Several longtime perks disappeared. Even some seasoned Disney visitors started cutting back on trips.
Now, though, Disney appears to be doing the opposite.
The company has rolled out aggressive hotel discounts, dining offers, ticket deals, and vacation packages designed to pull families back into the parks. Those offers are arriving just as Disney begins launching one of its busiest entertainment schedules in recent memory.

That timing matters.
Discounts alone can increase attendance. New attractions alone can increase attendance. But when Disney combines both at once, the parks can get crowded fast.
And this summer has several major demand drivers all hitting together.
Hollywood Studios Could Become the Busiest Park of the Summer
Disney’s Hollywood Studios may end up feeling the impact more than any other park.
The park was already packed on many days thanks to rides like Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Tower of Terror. Wait times have regularly climbed throughout the day, with Slinky Dog Dash often reaching some of the longest lines at Walt Disney World.

Now Disney is adding even more reasons for guests to visit.
One of the biggest additions is the opening of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The former Aerosmith version of the attraction had already been one of the park’s major thrill rides for years. Adding the Muppets into the experience creates an entirely new level of curiosity, especially among longtime Disney fans who want to see how dramatically the attraction has changed.
That alone would create crowds.
But Hollywood Studios is also preparing to launch Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, a brand-new stage show aimed directly at younger families. Disney clearly understands that the park has struggled at times to balance thrill attractions with experiences for smaller children. This show gives families another major reason to spend full days inside the park.

Then there is the continued overhaul of Animation Courtyard.
That area has been changing significantly, and guests are already watching closely to see what Disney does next. Construction walls, updated experiences, and refreshed entertainment offerings tend to create even more demand because people want to experience the “new version” of the park for themselves.
When you combine all of that with existing attractions that already generate massive waits, Hollywood Studios could become extremely difficult to navigate during peak summer dates.
Cool Kid Summer Is Bringing Families Back
Disney also knows exactly who they are targeting this summer: families with children.
The resort’s Cool Kid Summer offerings are heavily designed around younger guests and family-friendly entertainment. That includes dance parties, kid-focused activities, character experiences, entertainment offerings, and special seasonal additions throughout the parks.
Bluey may end up becoming one of the biggest crowd drivers of all.

The character has exploded in popularity with families, and Disney introducing Bluey-themed experiences instantly creates another major demand point for parents traveling with younger kids. Even families that may not normally prioritize Disney trips could suddenly feel motivated to visit while those offerings are available.
That creates a ripple effect across the entire resort.
More families booking vacations means busier value resorts, longer transportation lines, more packed dining reservations, and increased Lightning Lane demand.
And once one park becomes crowded, guests start hopping elsewhere to avoid waits — spreading congestion throughout all four parks.
EPCOT Is Quietly Preparing for Huge Crowds Too
A lot of attention has gone toward Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios lately, but EPCOT may quietly become one of Disney’s busiest parks this summer as well.
The return of Soarin’ Across America is generating major nostalgia among longtime Disney fans. Many guests still consider the original version superior to Soarin’ Around the World, and Disney bringing it back ties directly into the growing celebration surrounding America’s 250th anniversary.

That nostalgia factor matters more than people think.
Disney fans often rush to limited-time offerings because they never know how long they will stick around. That can create massive spikes in attendance during opening weeks.
EPCOT already struggles with attraction capacity in certain areas of the park. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Test Track routinely pull some of the highest wait times at Walt Disney World.
Now add a returning fan-favorite version of Soarin’ into the mix, and crowd patterns could shift dramatically.
The wait times shown recently already suggest how quickly EPCOT attractions can spike during busy periods, with Soarin’, Frozen, Guardians, and Test Track all climbing heavily throughout the day.
That may only intensify once summer vacation crowds fully arrive.
VIP Perks and Lightning Lane Access Are Changing Park Behavior
Disney’s newer Lightning Lane system is also playing a role in how chaotic the parks may start to feel.
The introduction of Premier Pass options and expanded paid skip-the-line offerings has changed guest strategy across the resort. Some visitors are paying enormous amounts of money to avoid standby lines entirely, while others are rope dropping attractions earlier than ever to avoid paying extra.
That creates heavier crowds earlier in the morning.
At the same time, Disney’s VIP-style perks for certain resort guests and Annual Passholders continue shifting park flow. Early Entry and Extended Evening Hours encourage guests to arrive before official opening, while special Passholder offerings continue pulling local crowds into the parks more frequently.
Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios could especially feel the effects of this throughout the summer.
Disney World May Be Entering Its Busiest Stretch Yet
The biggest reason this summer feels different is because Disney is no longer relying on just one thing to drive attendance.
It is everything at once.
New attractions. Returning experiences. Family entertainment. Character additions. Hotel discounts. Vacation packages. Seasonal offerings. Nostalgia. Lightning Lane changes. Passholder perks. Resort benefits.

Disney has essentially created the perfect formula for massive summer crowds.
And unlike some previous years where construction closures slowed demand, many guests now feel like there is finally enough “new” happening across the resort to justify another trip.
That could make the next several months feel far busier than many fans expect.
For guests planning summer vacations, flexibility may become extremely important. Rope dropping attractions, taking midday breaks, using Lightning Lane strategically, and prioritizing reservations earlier than usual could make a major difference.
Because if Disney’s current strategy works the way the company hopes, these parks may not stay quiet for much longer.
