‘Jurassic Park’ Officially Being Rebooted for the Small Screen, More Films Unlikely

Last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) might have scored big at the global box office with $869.1 million, which almost guarantees another sequel, but the downside is that it probably means the end of the Park side of the film series for good.

In 2015, the franchise was rebranded with Jurassic World, and since then, Universal has slapped that new name on everything from plastic lunchboxes to theme park attractions, animated shows to video games, and merch to movies. Now, there are more World movies than Park ones, which is hardly surprising given how lucrative the rebranding has been.

But this means that the Jurassic films are unlikely to return to theaters under the Park banner.

Jurassic Park Isn’t Going Fully Extinct

However, that side of the franchise isn’t extinct in other media, as fans are closely watching the upcoming first-person action-adventure video game Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA).

Set just 24 hours after the events of the original 1993 film, the game allows players to explore “a fully realized Isla Nublar” complete with iconic locations from the film, like the Visitor Center, along with its kitchen and rotating movie theater, and never-before-seen areas, including dinosaur enclosures that weren’t on the tour and a hotel in mid-construction.

What’s It About?

The main protagonist is Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry), an InGen scientist hired by Dr. Henry Wu, who failed to leave the island with her co-workers after Mr. Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) gave the evacuation order due to the incoming storm, as seen in the 1993 film.

Now, with carnivorous dinosaurs like Dilophosaurus, Velociraptor, and Tyrannosaurus Rex roaming free, Joshi must use her intelligence and all the available resources to outlast some of the deadliest predators that have ever walked the earth. But it won’t be a walk in the park.

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the official synopsis reads. “Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”

Survival Will Relaunch the Park Side of the Franchise

While there’s no release date, Saber Interactive and Universal shared a behind-the-scenes featurette last year, showcasing the environments, dinosaur models, the lead character, and how everything has been meticulously recreated to appear just as it was left in the film.

It’s fair to say that Jurassic Park: Survival looks like it has been “spared no expense.”

But while the game follows the original film, with the creative team having reviewed everything from props to production blueprints to ensure strict continuity, it also has the responsibility of relaunching the Park banner — which has been lost under the World name — in a similar way to how the 2015’s Jurassic World was a “soft reboot” of the film series.
