70-Year-Old Disneyland Ride Closed After Second Vehicle Derailment

Disneyland Resort’s Autopia attraction closed over the weekend after the second vehicle derailment in less than a year. Disney Park guests were evacuated from the 70-year-old ride and removed from the queue as cast members worked to relocate the crashed car.

Last Autopia Derailment

Previously, the most recent derailment on Autopia was in June of 2025. At the time, it had been years since the last crash on the ride. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace captured several photos of the incident, showing a red car on its side in a grassy area to the side of the race track:

Unlike bumper cars or go-karts, the Autopia vehicles travel on a pre-set steel track, making it nearly impossible to steer off course. Derailment requires an excessive amount of force or a malfunction with the car, track, or fences and other barriers on the side of the attraction.

Incident Over the Weekend

Just eight months after the most recent crash, Autopia has derailed again. Over the weekend, Instagram user @hellena_hex shared this video of Disney cast members trying to push a red car out of a grassy area to the side of the attraction, and guests evacuating the Tomorrowland ride’s queue.

The Southern California Disney Park guest confirmed that the ride was evacuated and shut down after the derailment occurred: “If you’re wondering why Autopia got evacuated today…because one of you can’t drive.”

Disneyland Resort didn’t issue a public statement on the Autopia derailment over the weekend. The Tomorrowland attraction had reopened and was operating normally by the time of this article’s publication.

The Future of a 70-Year-Old Disneyland Park Icon

In April 2024, Disneyland Resort announced that it would update all of the vehicles on Autopia to be fully electric by the fall of 2026. Disney has stayed quiet about these plans as the deadline approaches, but the upgrade would reduce the gas smell in Tomorrowland and make the attraction much more appealing to families.
