On Monday, Walt Disney World Resort announced that it planned to extend a three-day theme park closure by two more days, officially ceasing all operations for a total of five days. The news came amid freezing temperatures in Central Florida, making some attraction operations impossible.
Disney World Theme Park Closure Extended
Over the weekend, Walt Disney World Resort announced that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park would be closed from Monday, January 12, through Wednesday, January 14. The water park was originally scheduled to reopen on Thursday, January 15.

However, on Monday, as weather reports suggested that freezing temperatures would continue into next weekend, Walt Disney World Resort updated its website to extend the water park closure through the weekend. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be closed from Monday, January 12, to Friday, January 16, for five days.
The coldest air of the season arrives late week and lasts into next week. Here’s the hour by hour wind chills. Sure, it’s cold Friday morning… but notice how chilly it is during the day (Thursday and Friday). Thursday turns gusty early, by dinner time it’s already cold. And Friday feels like the 40s & 50s most of the day. #cold #florida

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is currently closed for its seasonal refurbishment, so it was not affected by the winter weather closures this week.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Reopening Date

As of now, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The Walt Disney World Resort theme park will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. that day.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is scheduled to reopen on February 15, 2026, at which point Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will close for its seasonal refurbishment. Construction permits suggest that Disney is planning to rebuild the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide during the maintenance period, following a lawsuit over a “painful wedgie” on the ride.

Both Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be open for the summer, from May 26, 2026, to September 8, 2026. Disney Resort hotel guests will receive complimentary water park entry on their check-in day between those dates.
