A parkgoer has allegedly passed away at Disneyland Resort while riding Haunted Mansion.

Several reports on social media claim that a guest was found unresponsive in their Doom Buggy ride vehicle at the end of the attraction, which is currently in its seasonal iteration of Haunted Mansion Holiday.

An X, formerly known as Twitter, user alleged that the guest in question had suffered a heart attack during the classic Disneyland ride on October 7. The guest was subsequently declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Sadly a guest had a heart attack on Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland last night. She was unresponsive when it was her turn to unload and declared DOA once she reached the hospital. Sending condolences to her family and loved ones 😢

In the Disneyland Annual Passholder Facebook group (via Orlando Theme Park Zone), eyewitness Aaron AJ Brody wrote: “I saw all the security and medical personnel running into Haunted Mansion and knew something bad had happened. Thoughts and prayers to her family.”

Another member, Lisa Cortijo, added: “Heartbreaking. Security was rushing past us, we were wondering what happened.”

Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department has since shared a statement with EW with more details.

Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded to the Disneyland Resort for an unresponsive woman in her 60s who had just finished riding the Haunted Mansion attraction,” Sutter said, adding, “Disneyland security personnel provided CPR until paramedics arrived.

Past Theme Park Medical Emergencies

Medical emergencies can, and do, happen at Disney parks. With hundreds of thousands of guests visiting Disney’s theme parks worldwide on any given day, several incidents have made headlines in the past. In August, a guest at Hong Kong Disneyland passed away after suffering a heart attack on Frozen Ever After.

Meanwhile, in late 2023, a guest suffered a fatal allergic reaction after dining at Raglan Road in Walt Disney World Resort’s shopping and dining district, Disney Springs.

Beyond Disney, a guest passed away at Central Florida’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, in September. The guest in question, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, was found unresponsive after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster. It was later found that he had suffered “multiple blunt impact injuries.”

Despite requests from his family, Stardust Racers reopened to all guests over the weekend.

Universal offered its condolences to Zavala’s family in a letter to employees, but also insisted that the attraction was safe to reopen. “Our extensive review was conducted working closely with local officials, and the state of Florida observed the testing and reviewed the results,” it said. “In addition, the ride system manufacturer of record and an independent, third-party roller coaster engineering expert conducted their own on-site testing and validated our findings.”

The park has also implemented updated safety and accessibility rules, requiring riders to walk independently. Zavala had a pre-existing spinal injury, though his family’s attorney, Ben Crump, rejected any suggestion that it contributed to his death.
