Guests have witnessed lots of change at Walt Disney World over the last decade. From new roller coasters like TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to hotel and resort upgrades, “The Most Magical Place on Earth” continues getting more magical each year.

Perhaps the best example of a park getting upgraded is EPCOT. While divisive, the park’s recent transformation ushered in a new era for EPCOT, giving it some much-needed TLC. Now the park is segmented into four distinct areas, or neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Showcase, World Nature, and World Discovery.

However, Disney fans can be quite passionate, with even the smallest changes sparking controversy within the community. One of the latest changes at Disney World involves trash cans, more specifically what is on them, with fans calling out Disney for being “cheap.”

Twitter user @FiBelleFi recently shared an image of new trash can designs now being used at Walt Disney World. These trash cans sport a very flat sticker of the World Showcase logo.

The general consensus is that these trash cans look cheap compared to the rest of Walt Disney World.

“This is where I draw the line,” said one user. Bob Iger at it again, giving us cheap garbage instead of Walt’s quality standards,” said another.

“It’s the little things that used to matter but slowly stuff like this is happening,” another said. “This is worse than the ugly solar powered cans.”

Another user called this development a “travesty,” saying, “I was there last week, and did manage to see one trash can with the original emblem on it, now I know why I didn’t see more.”

It’s unclear what prompted Disney to debut these new trash cans, but they’re certainly causing a stir among fans.

Other areas of the parks are changing in much, much bigger ways, with construction now underway on three brand new lands. Magic Kingdom will eventually be home to a new area called Piston Peak.

Inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise, Piston Peak will feature a number of new attractions and experiences for guests to enjoy, including an “E-ticket” racing ride.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting the Pixar treatment, too, though it’s Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc. who will be coming to the park more than Lightning McQueen. The fictional city of Monstropolis will soon become a reality for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new land will be located where Muppets Courtyard was previously located.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also getting a new area called Tropical Americas. This exciting new project builds off the bones of DinoLand U.S.A., which will close permanently on February 2, 2026.

Tropical Americas, Monstropolis, and Piston Peak are expected to be completed by 2027.
