An entire Disney theme park has closed down today.
For the most part, Disney’s theme parks operate 365 days a year. However, there are always exceptions. The COVID-19 pandemic, for example, shuttered Disney parks worldwide for months on end, while other significant events – such as the 9/11 attacks and the assassination of JFK – have also led to temporary closures.

The most common cause of unexpected closures, however, is weather. While Walt Disney World Resort is renowned for weathering its fair share of hurricanes and tropical storms over the years (although it’s managed to escape any hurricane closures so far in the 2025 season), other Disney parks are also affected, with Hong Kong Disneyland perhaps facing the most weather-related closures.
While these often only impact outdoor attractions – as was the case last week – sometimes the entire park is forced to close due to typhoons, as is the case today.
Entire Disney Park Confirms Its Closure
Super Typhoon Ragasa has been described as the most powerful storm on Earth so far this year. It is barreling its way towards Hong Kong with maximum sustained winds of 185kmph and gusts up to 230kmph.

For the safety of both Disney cast members and guests, Hong Kong Disneyland is closed today (September 23).
A notice on its website reads:
Hong Kong is currently affected by a typhoon. Due to inclement weather, Hong Kong Disneyland is closed.
Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre will remain closed until further notice.
While the park reportedly opened this morning, it ceased operations midway through the day, with cast members implementing several protection measures to mitigate damage from the impending storm.
Due to super typhoon Ragasa, Hong Kong Disneyland closed early today and various wind protection measures can be seen throughout the park.

This followed the issuance of typhoon signal 8, the third-highest typhoon warning in Hong Kong, at 2.20 p.m. today. This warning encourages most businesses and transport services to pause operations.
The park has yet to confirm plans for tomorrow (September 24). However, the South China Morning Post reports that Hong Kong International Airport has cancelled at least 700 flights, inevitably impacting many guests planning to arrive or depart from Hong Kong Disneyland in the coming days. The airport has warned of “significant disruption.”

While Hong Kong Disneyland opened yesterday, it did so under Strong Wind Signal No. 3, which meant all outdoor attractions – such as Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs in World of Frozen, RC Racer, Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, Jungle River Cruise, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant – were closed. Although the Disney park still has plenty of magic to offer guests during outdoor attraction closures, its rides are disproportionately more outdoor than indoor, meaning there is significantly less to do at the already-quite-small theme park.
One more indoor attraction will be added to its roster in the coming years as Walt Disney Imagineering works on a Spider-Man-themed, Tower of Terror-esque attraction for the Stark Expo area of Tomorrowland.
Stay tuned for more updates.
