In 2007, Disney and Pixar released an adorable animated film about a rat who loves everything to do with food and dreams of being just like his favorite chef, Auguste Gusteau. Ratatouille starred Patton Oswalt as the voice of Remy, a young rat whose family just doesn’t understand his love of food. Remy becomes separated from his family when they are forced to quickly flee the house they are living in.

Remy winds up in Paris, where he meets a young dishwasher named Luigi. Luigi wants to be able to cook, but he isn’t very good at it. With Remy’s help, they become an unbeatable team. Remy is finally reunited with his family, who have come to realize that, just because Remy is different from them, their family isn’t complete without him.

Ratatouille was an absolute hit, and Disney even created attractions based on the film at Disneyland Paris and EPCOT. For years, many fans have been wondering if Disney and Pixar would create a sequel.

Pixar has been struggling in recent years, with many of its original films, like Elio (2025), struggling to draw in audiences, despite positive reviews. The films that have seen the most success are sequels, including Toy Story 4 (2019) and Inside Out 2 (2024). In fact, Inside Out 2 was Pixar’s most successful film to date, grossing approximately $1.7 billion worldwide.

So, naturally, it makes sense to think that Disney and Pixar could be considering bringing Remy and Linguini back to the big screen.

In a recent interview with Collider, Patton Oswalt was asked if he was interested in returning for a sequel film. While he didn’t write the idea off completely, he did say that he would only come back under certain circumstances. And those circumstances rely heavily on Ratatouille’s writer and director, Pixar legend, Brad Bird.

“You just said the key to it. The world where that exists is where Brad thinks of a great idea, and until he does that, it’s not gonna happen. So I’m totally happy with no sequel unless he comes up with something amazing. And I trust in Brad.”

It’s been a while since Bird has addressed a potential Ratatouille sequel, but back in 2018, he did an interview with io9 and didn’t express much interest in the idea.

“You know, I feel like that story is told. I’m told I need to do an Iron Giant 2 and I’m told I need to remake everything that I’ve made and no one apparently wants anything new anymore. I’m a little at odds with society on that. I would like to do some new things.”

However, even though he said he wanted to do new things, Bird has returned to Pixar since then, working on Incredibles 2 (2018) and Toy Story 4. He is also currently hard at work on Incredibles 3, which is slated to be released sometime in 2028.

It’s also possible that Bird could come up with a story idea for Ratatouille 2 that he thinks is just incredible. After all, there was a 14-year gap between The Incredibles and Incredibles 2, so we can never say never!

Would you like to see Disney and Pixar create a Ratatouille sequel? Would you love to see Patton Oswalt return as the voice of Remy?
