One Six Flags theme park will not open to guests today.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation and Cedar Fair Entertainment Company finalized their merger on July 1, 2024, creating one of the largest amusement park operators in North America. This “merger of equals” resulted in a combined entity valued at $8 billion, overseeing 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resort properties across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In recent months, however, there have been whispers that the group may look to sell some of its sizable theme park empire.
While Six Flags hasn’t confirmed which properties it’s looking to sell, Six Flags CEO Richard Zimmerman said in July 2024, “We have completed our initial review having identified properties that are less strategic and critical to our long-term growth objectives, properties that we would consider divesting under the right circumstances.”
Earlier this month, Orange County Register also came up with a list of six parks it believes Six Flags may be looking to sell: Frontier City (Oklahoma City), Six Flags Darien Lake (Buffalo, New York), Valleyfair (Minneapolis, Minnesota), Worlds of Fun (Kansas City, Missouri), Six Flags Great Escape (Albany, New York) and Michigan’s Adventure (Grand Rapids).
Again, there’s no official word on any sales or closures just yet. However, today the group was forced to close one of its parks for an entirely different reason.

While guests can’t visit the park today, they can use the same tickets to visit any regular operating day from now until December 31, 2025. For now, the park is scheduled to reopen as usual tomorrow (March 12), but stay tuned for further updates.
Southern California is set to experience back-to-back storms starting Tuesday morning. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the first system, though weaker, is expected to bring between a third and two-thirds of an inch of rain to Los Angeles County.
The second storm will follow, with rain totals along the coasts and valleys projected to reach 1 to 2 inches by Thursday night, while mountain and foothill areas could see up to 4 inches.

The Latest Closure For Six Flags Magic Mountain
Six Flags Magic Mountain is home to some of the theme park group’s most iconic attractions, including Batman: The Ride, Full Throttle, Goliath, Superman: Escape from Krypton, Tatsu. This isn’t the first time the park has been forced to close this year.
As record-breaking wildfires blazed through Southern California in January, the park – located near Feedmill Road, which marked the boundary of the evacuation zone – closed to all guests.
Images shared from the area showed thick smoke on the horizon, with local firefighters using Six Flags Magic Mountain as a base of operations while responding to the Hughes Fire.
