When visiting the Disneyland Resort, it can be really hard to decide what you want to do first. There are so many incredible rides and attractions that it can be hard to narrow things down!

There are still a lot of opening day attractions in Disneyland Park, and it just has that special magic that can’t be recaptured. This is because Disneyland is the only theme park that Walt Disney had a major hand in creating from start to finish.

But did you know that you can actually ride one of Walt’s favorite futuristic attractions before you even enter the theme park? We are, of course, talking about the Disneyland Monorail!

The Disneyland Monorail takes guests from Downtown Disney right into the heart of Tomorrowland, letting them disembark right by Autopia and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The monorail also goes through parts of Disney California Adventure Park — Grizzly Peak, Buena Vista Street, and Hollywood Land, to be specific — but it is important to note that it does not stop in DCA.

Riding the Disneyland Monorail is a really fun experience that a lot of people look forward to. Unfortunately, if you are planning on visiting Disneyland Resort early next year, it will be an attraction you will have to skip.

According to the Disneyland Resort website, the monorail will close for refurbishment on January 6, 2025, and there is currently no reopening date in sight. The Disneyland calendar only runs through January 30, so the monorail will be closed until the end of the month at the earliest. However, it will most likely be closed for a longer period of time, since the website does not say when it will reopen.

This closure might be slightly surprising to some, as the monorail was also closed in August for refurbishment. Of course, the monorail has been a theme park staple since 1959, so it might need more TLC than a lot of other attractions.

The Disneyland Monorail is not the only attraction that will be closed at the beginning of next year. On January 7, Haunted Mansion Holiday will close and be converted back to the traditional Haunted Mansion attraction, which guests have not been able to ride for more than a year! The Haunted Mansion will reopen on January 17.

On January 12, “it’s a small world” Holiday will also close and be converted back to its original state, but we do not know when the ride will reopen.

In addition, two other attractions, Grizzly River Run and Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, both located in Disney California Adventure Park, will close on the same day as the monorail. Emotional Whirlwind will reopen on January 23, but Grizzly River Run will be closed until March 13.

The Monorail is not the only mode of Disneyland transportation that will be closed next month, either. The Disneyland Railroad will close on January 13 and is expected to be closed until May 16, when Disneyland Resort begins to celebrate its 70th Anniversary.

Sadly, a fan-favorite attraction is also closing early next year, and it may never reopen. The Red Car Trolley will close at DCA on February 9 as Disney prepares to expand Avengers Campus. The Red Car Trolley, if it comes back, will be closed for years.
