It’s been nearly four months since Tianas Bayou Adventure opened at the Magic Kingdom and years since Disney announced that Splash Mountain would close at Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort. However, some Splash Mountain fans are still holding out hope that their beloved ride will return.

As Splash Mountain fans clung to their last little bit of hope, other Disney fans took to social media to question why these fans were holding onto this one ride when so many different rides at Disney parks had disappeared. The response that came back set DIS Twitter on fire as the two sides attacked each other.

One Disney fan responded to the question of why some Splash Mountain fans keep hanging on to the attraction by accusing them of being “racist.” This accusation started this new fight on DIS Twitter.

Splash Mountain was based on the Disney film Song of the South (1946). The film has been called racist for its depiction of Uncle Remus, an African American character in the post-Civil War South.

Song of the South is one of the few Disney films that is not available on any of the company’s streaming services or for purchase on DVD or digital due to its racist content. Disney has attempted to purge the film and anything associated with it, including the Splash Mountain ride, from its parks.

When Disney canceled the ride at the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Park, critics accused the company of having gone “woke” and bowing to pressure from critics. However, Disney said the ride was outdated and needed a new angle, which Tianas Bayou Adventure gave them.

The comment that started this entire fight was:

If you’re that whiny about the splash thing, I know why you’re that whiny, and it isn’t someone or something I want to be associated with. It’s a word that starts with R if we’re being entirely honest. I said what I said. It’s an instant mute/block on those accounts.

Splash Mountain fans countered the accusation of racism by talking about the quality of the ride and the constant issues with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

When it opened in late June, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure faced several technical issues that closed the ride. However, those issues seem to have been solved, and Disney has announced the ride will soon open at Disneyland Park.

Splash Mountain is still open at Tokyo Disneyland. However, reports have emerged that Disney is in negotiations with the Oriental Land Company to remove It from that theme park.

For now, Disney fans will have to argue on Twitter about the ride, but no matter what they say, Splash Mountain isn’t coming back.
