One version of the Haunted Mansion is getting a makeover. Here’s what’s happening on the outside of Phantom Manor, the dark ride in Frontierland at Disneyland Park (Paris).
A Darker Version of the Haunted Mansion Attraction

Phantom Manor opened alongside Disneyland Paris Resort on April 12, 1992. Disneyland Park (Paris) is the only Disney park worldwide with this version of the haunted house-inspired dark ride; Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and Tokyo Disney Resort have the Haunted Mansion, and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has Mystic Manor. Shanghai Disney Resort does not have its own Haunted Mansion-style attraction.
While Phantom Manor features scenes similar to those of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park in California and Magic Kingdom Park in Florida, the ride’s storyline is much darker in tone than those versions and features elements of the Old West. Imagineers cite Gaston Leroux’s “The Phantom of the Opera” novel as a major influence on the attraction, which was carefully crafted to appeal to a European rather than an American audience.
Repainting Outside Phantom Manor

On October 28, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DLPReport shared photos of Disney cast members repainting dark rockwork outside the entrance to Phantom Manor:

The area is roped off and blocked with large barriers and “wet paint” signs.

Disneyland Paris Resort hasn’t said anything about this specific repainting project, but more work is in store for Phantom Manor. The ride is scheduled to close for refurbishment on November 16, with plans to reopen on November 28. The Frontierland attraction typically closes for annual maintenance around this time, following the Disney Halloween Festival celebration at Disneyland Park (Paris).
