Disney’s Hollywood Studios recently welcomed a major new addition, but just over a month after its debut, guests are already experiencing something very different from what Disney originally promised.
The new experience arrived with plenty of excitement, offering families another opportunity to enjoy Disney magic beyond traditional rides and attractions. Unfortunately, its first few weeks haven’t gone quite as smoothly as expected.
Technical problems have reportedly forced Disney to temporarily remove a major part of the experience on multiple occasions, leaving guests with a modified version of the attraction.
While the show continues operating, visitors aren’t always getting the full experience they expected.
Here’s what’s happening at Hollywood Studios and what guests should know before their next visit.
Disney’s Newest Experience Is Already Facing Problems
On September 14, 2026, Disney’s Hollywood Studios officially welcomed The Magic of Disney Animation, a newly reimagined area celebrating Disney’s animated films and beloved characters.
Among its biggest additions was Olaf Draws!, an interactive drawing experience featuring everyone’s favorite snowman from Frozen (2013).
Unlike a traditional drawing class, Olaf Draws! features an Olaf Audio-Animatronic that interacts with guests while helping guide them through the creative process.
The experience allows visitors to learn how to draw Disney characters while enjoying Olaf’s familiar personality, jokes, and playful commentary.
For families who love Frozen (2013), the attraction offers something different from the usual theme park experience. Instead of rushing between rides, guests can sit down, pick up a pencil, and create their own Disney artwork.
However, the attraction has already experienced significant technical difficulties.
Despite opening just over a month ago, Olaf Draws! has reportedly encountered repeated problems involving its main animatronic figure.
And those issues have become noticeable enough that Disney has occasionally had to operate the attraction without its biggest star.

A Major Part of the Show Has Disappeared
Guests visiting Olaf Draws! may discover that the Olaf animatronic is completely missing from the stage.
The figure has reportedly been removed from view on multiple occasions since the attraction opened, apparently because of technical difficulties.
That’s a disappointing development for visitors who specifically wanted to see Disney’s newest animatronic in action.
After all, Olaf isn’t simply a background decoration. He’s a major part of what makes the experience different from other Disney drawing classes.
His expressions, movements, and interactions help bring the character to life, giving guests the feeling that they’re participating in an activity alongside the lovable snowman.
Without him, the experience loses a significant part of its personality.
Disney hasn’t publicly confirmed the exact cause of the recurring problems or provided a permanent timeline for resolving them.
For now, guests may encounter a different version of the attraction depending on whether the animatronic is functioning properly during their visit.

Disney Has a Backup Plan Ready
Fortunately, Disney doesn’t completely cancel Olaf Draws! whenever the animatronic experiences technical difficulties.
Instead, the attraction switches into what’s commonly called B-mode, allowing the drawing experience to continue without the physical Olaf figure.
Disney uses drapes to conceal the animatronic when it isn’t functioning correctly.
The show then plays an alternate version of its prerecorded presentation, with the animator acknowledging that Olaf isn’t available.
Guests can still participate in the drawing activity and follow the instructions to create their own Disney character artwork.
However, they miss out on Olaf’s physical movements, jokes, and interactions throughout the experience.
It’s certainly better than shutting down the attraction entirely, especially for families who have already waited to participate.
Still, the backup version isn’t quite the same as seeing the complete show.
And with the attraction being so new, repeated technical problems could frustrate visitors who expected everything to be operating as intended.

There’s Still Plenty of Disney Magic Nearby
If you’d rather skip Olaf Draws! while it’s operating in B-mode, The Magic of Disney Animation offers several other experiences worth exploring.
One of the biggest draws is the opportunity to meet Disney characters throughout the area.
Guests can encounter familiar favorites like Mulan, Rapunzel, Chip ‘n’ Dale, and Goofy, along with other animated personalities.
Some characters also make surprise appearances around the courtyard. The White Rabbit and Jiminy Cricket, for example, have reportedly been spotted greeting visitors.
Families traveling with younger children can also explore Drawn to Wonderland, a colorful playground inspired by Alice in Wonderland (1951).
For another indoor experience, guests can visit the Once Upon a Studio Theater.
There, Disney presents the animated short Once Upon a Studio (2023) with enhanced effects that make beloved characters appear along the theater walls.
Guests can also visit the Enchanted Art Gallery, where scanning a MagicBand+ or park ticket brings animated Disney portraits to life, before exploring Treasures Untold. This nearby exhibit features familiar Disney keepsakes, including Jiminy Cricket’s gold star pin, Kuzco’s crown, and Scrump, Lilo’s beloved doll.
Together, these experiences give families several alternatives if Olaf Draws! isn’t delivering its complete presentation.

Will Disney Fix the Problems?
Olaf Draws! remains a functioning attraction, even when its main animatronic temporarily disappears.
However, seeing such a prominent feature experience repeated difficulties so soon after opening raises understandable questions about its reliability.
Disney clearly has a backup system that keeps guests drawing, but visitors hoping to see Olaf himself may leave disappointed.
Hopefully, the technical problems will become less frequent as Disney continues operating its newest Hollywood Studios experience.
Until then, guests should be prepared for the possibility that Olaf Draws! may look a little different from what they expected.
