The Walt Disney World Resort has quietly updated the previously established operating timeline of this Hollywood Studios theme park location.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests were bracing to lose yet another attraction this week. Walt Disney World had scheduled Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie at the Mickey Shorts Theater to begin a temporary closure on October 28, 2026, barely a month after the show returned from an extended absence in September.
Disney never announced a reopening date or explained the reason behind the shutdown. As it turns out, the story has taken a very different turn.
What Is Vacation Fun?
Vacation Fun debuted at Hollywood Studios in March 2020 inside the Mickey Shorts Theater, located in the park’s Echo Lake area. The show follows Mickey and Minnie through an original animated short that blends new animation with clips from classic Mickey Mouse cartoons.
Guests can also explore photo opportunities featuring life-size recreations of Mickey’s world. It’s a far cry from the park’s headline thrill rides, but the indoor theater has long offered a welcome chance to sit down and take a break during a busy day.

Why the Theater Was Expected to Close
The planned closure followed a familiar pattern. In late October 2025, Vacation Fun went dark while the theater’s exit area was converted into a merchandise location supporting Disney Jollywood Nights. The show didn’t return until December 27, 2025.
With Jollywood Nights back for 2026, running from November 7, 2026, through January 5, 2027, the timing pointed toward a repeat. Disney, however, never confirmed that the holiday event was behind this year’s scheduled shutdown.
A Year of Interruptions
The closure would have been the latest in a string of interruptions for the attraction. The theater was unavailable from April 29 to May 7 during a Star Wars merchandise activation tied to May the Fourth, AKA Star Wars Day. It then closed again from August 9 to September 26 while the space hosted a Kermit the Frog Annual Passholder magnet distribution.
Vacation Fun finally returned to the operating lineup on September 27.

Vacation Fun Remains Open at Hollywood Studios
That’s where the story takes its twist. Vacation Fun did not close on October 28, per Disney’s established timeline, and the Mickey Shorts Theater has continued to welcome guests. What’s more, the official Walt Disney World website now lists operating hours for the attraction for the foreseeable future, suggesting the temporary closure is no longer on the books, at least for now. The location even remains open, per the published times, after Jollywood Nights commences at the park on November 7.
Disney has not publicly explained the change. It remains unclear whether the closure was canceled outright or simply postponed, or whether the company has found another home for any Jollywood Nights operations previously expected to use the space.

A Flexible Space at Hollywood Studios
Even with this reprieve, the Mickey Shorts Theater has clearly become one of the park’s most adaptable locations. Disney has repeatedly turned to it for merchandise distribution and seasonal event support, which gives the resort flexibility for limited-time offerings but leaves regular guests unsure when the animated short will actually be playing.
Guests heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the coming weeks should, based on current listings, be able to catch Mickey and Minnie’s animated adventure after all. That’s welcome news for families looking for a low-key, air-conditioned break between bigger attractions.

Still, given how often this theater’s schedule has shifted in 2026, plans could change again with little notice, particularly once Jollywood Nights begins on November 7. Check the My Disney Experience app or the official Walt Disney World website on the day of your visit for the latest operating information.
