Disney fans have grown accustomed to watching beloved attractions disappear. Still, the latest reports suggest another popular experience could be gone for good, and this time, guests apparently received no warning.
Recent accounts from Disney vacationers claim that an iconic Finding Nemo (2003) attraction has remained blocked off for months, with at least one crew member reportedly confirming its permanent removal.
Portions of the experience have reportedly already been dismantled, suggesting Disney may have made its decision long before families realized what was happening.
Unlike major attraction closures that are announced in advance, this reported removal has occurred without any formal explanation.
If these accounts prove accurate, another familiar Disney experience has disappeared without guests knowing they were enjoying it for the last time.
Disney Guests Report Another Permanent Closure
The experience at the center of the controversy is the Mr. Ray-themed slide inside Nemo’s Reef, a children’s splash playground aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy cruise ships.
Inspired by Pixar’s Finding Nemo (2003), Nemo’s Reef features underwater decorations, familiar characters, and interactive water features for children ages four and younger.
Passengers aboard both ships have reported that the Mr. Ray slide has been inaccessible since approximately April or May 2026.
Guest discussions on Facebook and Reddit describe months of restricted access, with families repeatedly discovering the slide blocked off.
In one Reddit discussion, a passenger claimed that a Disney crew member said the slide was being removed rather than repaired.
That distinction matters because a temporary maintenance closure suggests the experience could return.
A permanent removal would mean another Disney attraction has reached the end of its operating life without advance notice.

Physical Removal Raises Even More Questions
The reported changes suggest this may involve more than an extended refurbishment.
Recent passenger accounts indicate that Disney has removed the extended bottom section of the slide aboard at least the Disney Dream.
Meanwhile, the Mr. Ray figure, the surrounding coral decorations, and the staircase reportedly remain standing but are inaccessible.
The slide has also reportedly remained closed aboard the Disney Fantasy, although it remains unclear whether physical removal has begun there.
Neither vessel currently has an upcoming scheduled dry dock that would provide an obvious opportunity for extensive reconstruction.
Disney Cruise Line’s official Nemo’s Reef webpage does not specifically mention or display the Mr. Ray slide.
However, that omission does not establish that Disney has permanently retired the attraction.
The company has not publicly confirmed the reported removal or announced a replacement.

Could Safety Concerns Explain Disney’s Decision?
Although Disney has not explained the closure, some guests have questioned whether safety concerns contributed.
In late 2025, a young child suffered a broken femur while playing inside Nemo’s Reef aboard the Disney Dream.
His mother, Courtney Livingston, later shared that Disney provided her family with another cruise following the incident.
When they returned in March 2026, Livingston discovered that Disney had removed the coral structure that had been involved in her son’s fall and replaced portions of the playground’s flooring.
However, the child was not injured on the Mr. Ray slide, which remained operational during the family’s return visit.
There is no confirmed evidence connecting his injury to the slide’s reported removal.
Maintenance difficulties, safety evaluations, or potential redesign plans could explain the closure, but Disney has not identified an official reason.
Without an explanation, families are left wondering why the experience has apparently disappeared.

Disney Has Made Permanent Closures Before
Disney’s history includes numerous permanent attraction closures, particularly throughout Walt Disney World.
Magic Kingdom’s Splash Mountain closed in January 2023 before becoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opened in June 2024.
At EPCOT, Maelstrom permanently closed in 2014 to make way for Frozen Ever After.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios retired The Great Movie Ride in 2017 and eventually replaced it with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
These decisions disappointed longtime fans, but Disney publicly announced the closures and offered opportunities to experience the original attractions before they disappeared.
That makes the reported removal of the Mr. Ray slide particularly frustrating.
If the slide is permanently gone, families received no publicly announced final operating date or warning that the experience was approaching its final days.
Instead, guests reportedly encountered barriers and learned about the possible removal through crew members.
For parents who planned their vacations around toddler-friendly activities, that lack of communication could be disappointing.

Another Disney Experience Gone Without Warning?
Although Nemo’s Reef remains an advertised Disney Cruise Line experience, the future of its Mr. Ray slide appears uncertain.
The reported removal concerns the slide specifically, not the entire children’s playground.
Disney has not officially confirmed that the slide will never reopen, meaning its permanent status remains based on passenger accounts.
Nevertheless, months of restricted access, reports of physical removal, and statements from crew members suggest this may not be a routine refurbishment.
If those reports prove accurate, Disney has added another experience to its growing list of permanent closures, except this time, families never received a warning.
For guests expecting another opportunity to enjoy this familiar Finding Nemo attraction, that may be the most disappointing part.
