After six months of construction, Walt Disney World Resort has finally begun to remove scaffolding from the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction exterior at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The removal has allowed Central Florida Disney Park guests to see the refurbished Hollywood Tower Hotel facade for the first time.

The first signs of a refurbishment began in March, when Walt Disney World Resort filed a construction permit for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. A few months later, in May, Disney refurbished some exterior portions of the attraction queue. Disney cast members eventually removed flags hanging above the gift shop and installed scrim fabric around decorative elements of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade, preventing damage during eventual construction.

In July, the first scaffolding appeared on the outside of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, in the area above the gift shop. Over the last several months, Walt Disney World Resort has wrapped scaffolding around the front of the building and, just this week, it reached the top of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade containing the ride’s iconic elevator shafts.

Walt Disney World Resort appears to be focused on repainting the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade, with new sections of bright pink paint slowly appearing across the building. Disney cast members paint the base coat before adding extra layers to give the attraction its intentionally aged, haunted look.

On September 16, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort had removed a small portion of the scaffolding above the gift shop and near the attraction exit, which is where the construction equipment first appeared earlier this summer.

As expected, the area has been repainted pink and given intentional cracks and weathering. There are also some square spots where a layer of yellow paint is visible underneath the pink. Disney Parks fans should expect a similar look across the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade as the scaffolding slowly comes down.

Despite the ongoing exterior construction, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction remains open and operational. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced plans to close the ride for refurbishment.
