Any attraction can experience technical problems from time to time. That is simply part of operating complicated theme park rides. But when the attraction involved is Hagrid’s, people tend to notice quickly.
The timing makes the situation even more interesting. Islands of Adventure is already dealing with another extended attraction closure, and Universal recently confirmed that one involves actual damage requiring repairs.

Guests encounter magical creatures along the way, including Fluffy, Cornish Pixies, and a Blast-Ended Skrewt. The attraction also features multiple launches, a backward section, and a surprise drop that catches plenty of first-time riders off guard.
All of that has helped make Hagrid’s a priority for many families visiting Islands of Adventure. Its popularity often leads to long waits, making the early morning especially valuable for guests hoping to ride before the larger daytime crowds arrive.
That made Wednesday morning’s development particularly noticeable.
Guests Quickly Realized Something Was Off
A Universal fan took to Reddit this morning after noticing Hagrid’s was unavailable.
Initially, the Universal Orlando app reportedly listed the attraction as “closed today.” Later in the morning, that status changed to “delayed.”
That might sound like a minor wording change, but there is a major difference between those two messages.
“Closed today” naturally suggests guests should not expect an attraction to operate at all. “Delayed,” on the other hand, leaves open the possibility that Universal is working through an issue and could begin operating the ride later.
Independent wait-time tracking also showed Hagrid’s as closed this morning.
The situation carries even more weight for Universal hotel guests who plan their mornings around Early Park Admission. Depending on the operating schedule, that perk can give eligible guests access to select attractions before the park opens to everyone else.
For a ride as popular as Hagrid’s, getting through the gates early can make a significant difference.

Early Park Admission at Islands of Adventure began at 8 a.m. on September 16, but Hagrid’s remained delayed later Wednesday morning.
That meant guests hoping to use that early window specifically for Hagrid’s had to change plans.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong has been unavailable since late August, and Universal has now confirmed why.
According to a statement from Universal Orlando, the massive King Kong animatronic “sustained damage” during routine maintenance and is undergoing repairs. Universal has not announced a reopening date.
The attraction has consequently remained offline for weeks.
That situation helps explain why another unexpected closure at Islands of Adventure could immediately spark fans’ conversation. After watching a seemingly temporary Kong shutdown stretch into September, some guests naturally worry whenever another major ride suddenly disappears from the lineup.
All Eyes Are Now on What Happens Next
For now, though, there is no indication that Hagrid’s is dealing with anything comparable.
Universal has not announced an extended closure for the attraction, and the change from “closed today” to “delayed” could actually be an encouraging sign for guests hoping to ride on Wednesday.
At this point, the status still points to a temporary delay rather than a confirmed extended closure. Universal could get the attraction back up and running later in the day.
