Season 2 certainly didn’t provide an ending.
Instead, Hulu’s football comedy pushed Glen Powell’s character into an even more complicated situation, left several major storylines unresolved, and set the stage for another season. There is just one catch.
Hulu hasn’t officially renewed Chad Powers for Season 3.
Still, co-creator and showrunner Michael Waldron has made the creative plan clear. If Chad Powers returns for a third season, that season is expected to finish the story.
In other words, fans may get one more trip to South Georgia. But that would be the wrap.
‘Chad Powers’ Has Always Had an Ending in Mind
The future of Chad Powers looks a little unusual right now.
On one hand, Hulu has not officially announced Season 3. That means fans shouldn’t treat another batch of episodes as guaranteed just yet.
On the other hand, the people actually making the series aren’t talking about Season 3 like an open-ended continuation. They’re talking about it as the conclusion.
Waldron told Men’s Journal that he and Powell have viewed Chad Powers as a three-season story.
“I think it’s a three-season show,” Waldron said. “Do one more. Do one more, and we wrap it up.”
That’s about as clear as a creator can get about the intended lifespan of a television series without an official renewal or cancellation announcement from the streaming service.
Waldron explained that the story was designed around one college football season. While he acknowledged that plans can evolve, he said he and Powell have consistently believed three seasons would provide the right amount of time to tell this particular story.
Even more importantly, Waldron already knows how he wants it to end.
So, while Disney and Hulu haven’t formally announced that Chad Powers is ending, the creative team has effectively established the finish line. A Season 3 renewal would also bring fans one step closer to saying goodbye.
Season 3 Still Hasn’t Been Officially Ordered
That’s an important distinction.
As of September 2026, Hulu has not formally renewed Chad Powers for Season 3. Reports surrounding the series have pointed toward another season, especially considering where Season 2 leaves its characters, but there is no official Season 3 order yet.
Season 2 ends with another significant cliffhanger, just as the first season did. The finale leaves multiple storylines open and gives the writers plenty of material for one final run.
Esquire also reported that Waldron hopes to make one more season, quoting him as saying the series has “always” been viewed as a three-season story.
“We would kill to make one more and finish the story,” Waldron said.
That creates a strange situation for viewers.
Technically, Chad Powers Season 3 doesn’t exist yet. Hulu still needs to give the series the green light. But if that green light comes, fans already know they’re likely watching the beginning of the end.
Season 2 Leaves Plenty Unfinished
The good news for fans hoping for another season is that Chad Powers hasn’t reached anything resembling a natural stopping point.
Season 2 expands the number of people who know the truth about Chad’s identity, making his elaborate deception increasingly difficult to maintain.
After South Georgia defeats Texas in the finale, Tricia becomes involved in protecting the Chad Powers persona. She plans to use her position and resources to help keep the secret intact for the remainder of his college career.
Then there is Chad’s relationship with Ricky.
The season closes with Coach Hudson discovering the two together, adding yet another complication to an already chaotic situation. Chad has also declared his intention to return to school for another season while continuing his pursuit of a national championship.
Those aren’t exactly the kinds of developments a show introduces when it plans to disappear without another chapter.
Of course, an unfinished story doesn’t guarantee a renewal. Streaming services cancel shows with unresolved endings all the time.
Still, Waldron clearly wrote Season 2 with another chapter in mind.
Why Three Seasons Makes Sense for ‘Chad Powers’
The relatively short lifespan may actually fit Chad Powers better than trying to stretch the premise indefinitely.
The series began with an intentionally ridiculous idea. Glenn Powell plays Russ Holliday, a disgraced football player who creates the Chad Powers identity so he can get another opportunity to play college football.
That concept can only become more complicated as additional people learn his secret.
By Season 2, Chad is no longer maintaining the deception alone. Other characters have become involved, raising the stakes and making the situation harder to control.
Eventually, the show has to answer the question sitting at the center of everything: How does this end?
Waldron appears ready to do exactly that.
Rather than continue creating increasingly elaborate ways to keep Chad’s identity hidden for years, Season 3 could give the story a defined conclusion.
And because the series takes place across one college football season, there is already a natural clock ticking in the background.
Could Season 3 Look Different?
Even if Hulu orders another season, several details remain unknown.
Both of the first two seasons contained six episodes running roughly 30 minutes each. Waldron has said he enjoys that structure because it forces the series to move quickly rather than spend too much time on stories that don’t push the plot forward.
However, he hasn’t ruled out expanding the format.
Waldron suggested the world of Chad Powers could support longer episodes or even a larger episode count, particularly because viewers have become interested in supporting characters and their individual stories.
The release strategy could change as well.
Season 1 used a weekly model after Hulu released its first two episodes together. Season 2 went in a completely different direction, with all six episodes arriving at once.
Waldron said he was pleased with that change and designed Season 2’s episodes to keep viewers moving from one installment directly into the next.
If Season 3 happens, Hulu will eventually have to decide which approach it wants for the final run.
When Could the Final Season Arrive?
There isn’t a Season 3 release date because, again, there isn’t an official Season 3 renewal yet.
However, the series has established a pattern.
Both seasons arrived in September, allowing Chad Powers to capitalize on the beginning of college football season. Season 2 also moved through filming and production quickly enough to arrive less than a year after its renewal.
That makes another football-season release a natural possibility if Hulu moves forward, though nothing has been confirmed.
There are at least some encouraging signs surrounding the show’s future.
Waldron renewed his deal with 20th Television, which produces Chad Powers, earlier in 2026. Public viewership numbers for Season 2 haven’t been released, but Waldron said the show “extended its reach” during its second season.
Those factors don’t amount to a renewal announcement, but they add context to why another season remains very much in the conversation.
‘Chad Powers’ Is Approaching Its Planned Finish Line
For now, Chad Powers fans are waiting on two pieces of news that are closely connected.
The first is whether Hulu will officially renew the series.
The second is already much clearer.
If Season 3 happens, Waldron and Powell don’t appear interested in turning it into the beginning of another long stretch of episodes. Their plan has been to tell this story across three seasons and then bring Chad’s bizarre college football journey to its conclusion.
Waldron has even described the goal in appropriately football-heavy language, saying the team wants the opportunity to “bring it home” and get the story across the goal line.
So Chad Powers isn’t officially renewed, and its cancellation hasn’t been announced either.
But its ending is already taking shape.
Season 2 left the door wide open for another run. Now Hulu simply has to decide whether Chad Powers gets one final season to walk through it.
