It had been closed for an unannounced refurbishment since at least August 18, when Southern California Disney Park guests arrived to find it surrounded by construction walls, scaffolding, and scrim fabric.
Kiosk Reopens at the Entrance to Disneyland
According to a report from WDWNT, the Newsstand merchandise kiosk just inside the entrance to Disneyland Park reopened on September 21. The outlet shared a photo of the merchandise location, which is located on the left side of the entrance gate to the original Southern California Disney park:
The Newsstand is one of the smaller merchandise locations in the Main Street, U.S.A., area at Disneyland Park. It sells essential Disney Park souvenirs, like Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears, Disney Pin Trading lanyards, bubble wands, and plush toys.
According to Disney cast members interviewed by WDWNT, Disneyland Resort installed a new roof on the kiosk, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and added corner guards along the edge of the wooden counter. The guards help prevent injuries to guests who run into the sharp counter, especially little ones who may hit their heads on it. Still, despite the extended closure, the Newsstand looks largely the same–albeit refreshed.
Disneyland Resort never acknowledged the weeks-long closure, nor did it ever share its plans for the Newsstand. The Southern California vacation destination rarely comments publicly on construction projects that don’t force major closures of attractions or restaurants, and this project was no exception.
