With Wednesday already established as one of Netflix’s biggest original shows, attention has naturally turned toward how long Jenna Ortega can keep solving mysteries at Nevermore Academy. Season 3 is already moving forward, but the creative team apparently isn’t treating the upcoming chapter as the finish line.
In fact, executive producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough reportedly have an idea that could keep Wednesday in school for seven seasons.
That would turn what started as one supernatural mystery into a much longer journey through Wednesday’s teenage years. And if the series actually reaches that point, Nevermore may only be part of the story.
Wednesday Season 3 Is Already Moving Forward
Fans don’t have to worry about whether Wednesday Addams will return after Season 2.
Netflix officially renewed Wednesday for Season 3 in July 2025, even before the second season premiered. Production began near Dublin in February 2026, with Jenna Ortega returning alongside several familiar members of the Addams family.
Season 3 will also introduce several major newcomers. Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer have joined the cast, while Eva Green will play Morticia Addams’ long-lost sister, Ophelia.
The producers have teased more new students and teachers at Nevermore, along with buried Addams family secrets. Netflix has also revealed a behind-the-scenes look, suggesting Wednesday will make a trip to Paris during the season.
Those additions already give Season 3 plenty to work with. However, the bigger question now involves what happens afterward.
Season 3 May Be Nowhere Near the End
Millar and Gough apparently aren’t approaching the third season as Wednesday’s final adventure.
The producers reportedly “hope to keep Wednesday enrolled through the character’s Nevermore tenure, which lasts seven years (or seasons).”
That doesn’t mean Netflix has officially ordered seven seasons. At this point, only Season 3 has been formally confirmed. Still, it gives fans an idea of just how far the producers could potentially take Wednesday’s story.
There would also be one obvious challenge.
Netflix couldn’t keep the series on a several-year hiatus if it wanted Wednesday to remain a student throughout a seven-season run. Season 1 premiered in 2022, while Season 2 didn’t arrive until 2025. Jenna Ortega and the rest of the young cast won’t stay teenagers forever.
Future seasons would likely need much quicker production schedules, or the story could eventually start making larger jumps forward in Wednesday’s life.
And that possibility could actually open some interesting doors.
Seven Seasons Could Take Wednesday Beyond Nevermore
A seven-season run wouldn’t necessarily require Wednesday to spend every episode walking the halls of Nevermore.
The series could eventually build toward graduation, giving Wednesday one final major mystery at the academy before sending her into the next stage of her life.
College could offer an entirely new setting. Putting Wednesday into another unfamiliar environment, filled with new personalities, enemies, and mysteries, would give the writers room to refresh the series without abandoning the character fans already know.
There’s also another direction that feels especially natural: Wednesday becoming a private investigator.
The show has already built much of its identity around her obsession with mysteries. Watching an older Wednesday turn those instincts into something resembling a career could allow the series to mature alongside Ortega.
Future seasons could also spend more time with Wednesday’s friendships, her complicated relationship with her family, and even her love life. The producers have plenty of supporting characters they could continue developing as everyone gets older.
And Netflix may not limit that expansion to the main series.
An Addams Family Spinoff Could Expand the Franchise
Gough has confirmed that the creative team has discussed taking the franchise beyond Wednesday, although no lead character has officially been announced.
“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough said while discussing the possibility.
“There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”
That leaves plenty of possibilities.
A spinoff could follow another member of the Addams family, someone connected to Nevermore, or even a supporting character who has already become popular with viewers. For now, however, Netflix is keeping those details secret.
What seems increasingly clear is that the streamer sees potential for this world to become much larger than one show.
Wednesday Could Have Years of Stories Left
For now, everything starts with Season 3.
Production is currently underway, and the next chapter is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2027. Netflix has not announced an official premiere date yet, so a late 2027 release remains an expectation rather than a confirmed date.
Beyond that, Wednesday’s future remains wide open.
Seven seasons would be an enormous commitment, and Netflix hasn’t made that commitment publicly. Still, Millar and Gough clearly aren’t planning Season 3 as a farewell.
If Wednesday stays enrolled through her entire Nevermore tenure, fans could be watching Ortega’s version of the character for years to come. And with potential stories involving graduation, college, investigative work, relationships, and the larger Addams family, leaving Nevermore might eventually become the beginning of Wednesday’s next chapter rather than the end.
