Book first.. oh please.. the show is going to make Harry’s dad a racist when he bullies Snape.. he supposed to be a pale with sickly, yellowish skin.. the show is planning to make Harry’s dad seem like a racist.. and this alone has turned off many people from the show.. saying that the show is keeping to the books while planning Harry’s dad as the bad white man who bullies the black kid is not keeping true to the books..
I personally felt, after the last trailer, that it felt more like watching a fanfiction of the books. It kind of reminds me of Rings of Power – it’s a fine show, stunning visually with some strong acting, but only if you don’t think too hard about the books/lore.
This new HP feels off in many ways. Which isn’t saying it’s all bad and I can see the appeal to say, “but look, they added the right character to a scene” or “the period clothing is good” or “the magic looks decent”. The problem is a handful of rights doesn’t always cover up wrongs they created.
That said, I’m happy for those excited about it. I just personally don’t feel the things they’re getting right, for me, is enough to justify what they’re getting wrong and changing. I may still change my mind on it, but personally, I can’t really say it’s “more book accurate” other than in clothing and including a right character here or there in a scene. That said, I think there will be those who can set the books aside and will adore this and I’m happy for those who can do that. I’m just not there.
