Resort hopping is a major draw. We’ve stayed at multiple properties and hopped to Riverside and Wilderness to fish, booked a guided fishing excursion and used the waverunner at the Polynesian, visited multiple pools, arcades, dining, shopping and used the buses and ferries to get there. The more they take away, the fewer reasons I have to go back.
If you did 10 seconds of your own research you’d find, “to get to another resort by bus, you must take a bus from your hotel to a theme park or Disney Springs, and then transfer to a second bus heading to your destination resort.” So yes it’s possible.
Resort hopping is essential for seeing the holiday decorations. Each resort does something different. Even though the Gingerbread house is gone (stupid mistake), the GF still displays Easter Eggs. The Contemporary puts up a chocolate display, as does the Beach Club & Boardwalk. The lighted village is something I see every year & look to see what’s been added. And what about Halloween Trick or Treating at each resort? What about trying different holiday desserts that each resort offers? Not all offer the same. One year, I just went to all the resorts to try their Halloween treats. I understand that people bitch about it being crowded – it’s that way at all the resorts!!! I enjoy going to different lounges and going to the Poly for Dole Whip, in a totem cup. I can’t get that anywhere else.
Maybe they should look at restrictions at night if they are so worried about fireworks viewing, but come on, seeing the fireworks from the Poly or the top of the Contemporary is awesome! And unless you are staying at those resorts, you are doing it every night.
When they use the restrictions on resort-hopping, there are times where you can no longer do it through Disney Springs as they check to see that you have a reservation at the resort you are going to before being allowed to board the bus.
You can still do it through a park bus stop. (At least that was how it worked over July 4th this year when we stayed at Beach Club.)
In my experience, some resorts restrict access to popular, themed swimming pools (guests need a room key from that resort to open the gate), but things like eating at resort restaurants, renting watercraft, or simply walking around have always been open to guests from other resorts. Has that changed?

Where does it say you can’t resort hop if you are a registered guest at one of the properties? Drama much?
