Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to temporarily close beginning September 9, 2026. That will leave Disney’s Blizzard Beach as the only operating Disney water park.
Disney has not announced when Typhoon Lagoon will reopen, making September 8 the final scheduled operating day before the closure.
The timing is also important for Disney Resort hotel guests. Another water park benefit disappears at exactly the same time, meaning September 9 will bring two notable changes for guests hoping to spend part of their vacation in the water.
Typhoon Lagoon Will Close September 9
Typhoon Lagoon will begin its temporary closure on September 9, giving guests only a few more weeks to visit before the gates close.
Unlike a permanent attraction closure, this isn’t the end for Typhoon Lagoon. Disney routinely closes its water parks for refurbishment and maintenance, particularly outside the busiest summer stretch.
What we don’t know yet is how long this particular closure will last.
Disney has not provided an official reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon. Once it closes, Blizzard Beach will remain available for guests looking to add a water park day to their Walt Disney World vacation.
This continues a pattern Disney has followed for years.
Disney Has Been Rotating Its Water Parks
For much of the post-pandemic era, Disney has generally operated one water park while keeping the other closed.
The parks have essentially traded places at different points on the calendar. When one reopened, the other would often close for its own refurbishment period.
That changed in a notable way in 2025.
For the first time since the COVID-era closures, Disney operated Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach simultaneously during the summer. That gave guests something they hadn’t enjoyed in years: a choice between both Disney water parks during the same vacation.
Disney brought that approach back for 2026.
Blizzard Beach temporarily closed in May for a brief refurbishment before reopening. That allowed both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon to operate during the summer again.
Now, that period of having both parks available is coming to an end, at least temporarily.
Blizzard Beach Will Be the Only Option
Beginning September 9, guests who want a Disney water park experience will have one choice: Blizzard Beach.
It will be interesting to see whether Disney continues this operating strategy in future years.
Opening both water parks during the busy summer months gives guests more capacity and more choices. Disney can then return to its traditional rotating schedule during other portions of the year.
After following that strategy for two consecutive summers, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it become the standard approach moving forward.
For now, though, guests specifically hoping to visit Typhoon Lagoon should pay close attention to their vacation dates.
September 8 is currently the last opportunity before the park begins its temporary closure.
Another Major Water Park Perk Ends September 8
There’s another reason September 8 matters.
Disney’s complimentary water park admission benefit for Disney Resort hotel guests also ends that day.
Throughout the summer, the perk has allowed guests to visit a Disney water park on their resort check-in day without purchasing a separate water park ticket. That benefit will not continue for arrivals beginning September 9.
The timing means Disney Resort guests will essentially see two water park changes happen at once. Typhoon Lagoon closes, and the complimentary check-in day water park benefit ends.
Blizzard Beach will remain open, but guests will need a valid admission rather than relying on the complimentary resort check-in benefit. That could make a noticeable difference for families planning September vacations, particularly those who had become accustomed to using arrival day for a few hours at a water park.
A Big Change Arrives September 9
Disney hasn’t announced how long Typhoon Lagoon will remain closed, so there is still an important piece of the schedule missing.
What we do know is that the current two-water-park period is almost over.
Guests have through September 8 to enjoy Typhoon Lagoon before its temporary closure begins. That is also the final day of Disney’s complimentary water park admission benefit for eligible Resort hotel guests.
Starting September 9, Blizzard Beach will stand alone as Walt Disney World’s operating water park.
Whether Disney eventually swaps the two parks again or keeps Blizzard Beach operating for an extended stretch remains to be seen. But after two consecutive summers with both water parks operating, Disney may be settling into a new rhythm: both parks for summer, followed by rotating closures during other parts of the year.
