Beginning September 5, Hogwarts Castle at Universal Islands of Adventure will once again fall under the influence of Lord Voldemort, Dementors, Death Eaters, and other dark forces. Universal has officially confirmed the return of Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle, with the nighttime experience running on select dates through November 1.
That means guests have just 11 days before one of Universal Orlando’s most recognizable landmarks takes on a very different appearance after sunset.
And Hogwarts isn’t the only place where the Dark Lord’s followers are returning.

Hogwarts Castle Goes Dark September 5
Universal confirmed that Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle will officially return to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade on September 5.
Rather than simply illuminating Hogwarts with colorful projections, Dark Arts transforms the castle into the centerpiece of a much more sinister nighttime experience.
As darkness settles over Hogsmeade, ominous imagery begins appearing across Hogwarts Castle. Dementors, Death Eaters, and other creatures take over the castle through projection effects accompanied by music.
Eventually, Lord Voldemort himself appears as the experience reaches its finale.
Universal describes the show as a spectacle of light and music that brings some of the darkest characters and creatures from the Wizarding World directly to Hogwarts.
Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle will be presented on select dates from September 5 through November 1.
The timing also gives Universal another major nighttime offering during one of the busiest stretches of its fall calendar.
Dark Arts Returns During a Major Harry Potter Anniversary
This year’s return carries some additional significance because Universal is also celebrating 25 Years of Magic, marking the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) arrived in theaters 25 years ago, beginning the film franchise that would eventually become the foundation for Universal’s Wizarding World lands.
As we previously covered, Universal has continued finding new ways to expand the presence of Harry Potter across Universal Orlando Resort.
The resort now features three separate Wizarding World destinations spread across its theme parks. Hogsmeade operates at Universal Islands of Adventure, Diagon Alley is located inside Universal Studios Florida, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic opened with Universal Epic Universe in May 2025.
This fall, however, Universal is turning its attention back toward two of its original Wizarding World locations.
Death Eaters Are Also Taking Over Diagon Alley
Guests won’t have to wait until September 5 to see the darker side of the Wizarding World.
The Death Eaters serve Lord Voldemort, and their appearances give guests a chance to encounter the characters throughout the streets of Diagon Alley.
Unlike Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle, which centers around a large-scale projection and music presentation, the Diagon Alley experience brings the characters directly into the land.
Guests may encounter the Death Eaters as they move through the area and attempt to determine where visitors’ loyalties lie.
Those appearances will continue on select dates through November 1.
The August 27 starting date also places their return just before Halloween Horror Nights begins at Universal Studios Florida on August 28.
Universal Leans Into the Darker Side of Harry Potter
The return of Dark Arts gives Universal another way to change the atmosphere of the Wizarding World once the sun goes down.
During the daytime, Hogwarts Castle remains the towering centerpiece behind Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. At night, the projections dramatically change its appearance as familiar villains and creatures begin taking over its exterior.
For guests visiting Universal Orlando during September and October, that creates two very different versions of Hogsmeade depending on when they enter the land.
It also adds another nighttime experience to Universal Islands of Adventure while Halloween Horror Nights takes over Universal Studios Florida on select evenings next door.
Universal is leaning heavily into darker entertainment across the resort during this stretch of the year, and the Wizarding World fits naturally into that seasonal atmosphere.
Dark Arts Continues Through November 1
Guests hoping to see Hogwarts Castle transformed will have nearly two months to catch the experience.
Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle begins September 5 and continues on select dates through November 1. Death Eaters in Diagon Alley begin even earlier, appearing on select dates from August 27 through November 1.
Universal has not said that Hogwarts Castle itself is closing as part of the change. Instead, the “dark” transformation happens after sunset as the Dark Arts presentation takes over the castle’s exterior.
For visitors who haven’t experienced the nighttime show before, the biggest change comes when the familiar Hogwarts facade becomes a canvas for some of the Wizarding World’s most threatening characters.
Dementors descend. Death Eaters emerge. Dark magic spreads across the castle.
And beginning September 5, Lord Voldemort will once again take control of Hogwarts at Universal Orlando Resort.
