Credit: bea & txm & alan, FlickrGuests arriving at Magic Kingdom Park this week discovered a shiny and new version of the Haunted Mansion attraction. The months-long refurbishment of the iconic Liberty Square ride’s facade finally appears to be almost complete.
Haunted Mansion Refurbishment Almost Finished
Six days ago, Inside the Magic reported that the themed scrim had finally disappeared from the front of the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park. However, at the time, tarps remained in front of garden beds and other decorative areas at the base of the structure as Walt Disney World Resort wrapped up some landscaping in the area.
On August 4, WDWNT reported that most of the final signs of construction had finally disappeared. A small piece of tan scrim fabric remains on one section of the fence posts at the front of the building above the exit queue. A piece of green netted camouflage scrim is also dangling from a railing nearby.
Before the multi-month refurbishment began, shrubs, vines, and other greenery covered portions of the newly-exposed wall and railing. It’s unclear whether Walt Disney World Resort plans to plant more greenery or allow the existing plants to grow in and take up more space as they mature.
The Haunted Mansion remained open throughout its months-long refurbishment. Walt Disney World Resort rearranged some punny grave stones in the queue and refreshed the facade’s color scheme, making it more in line with its original 1971 appearance.
Over the last few years, the Haunted Mansion appeared more monotone and tan. Now, the bricks are much redder against a much grayer trim, and the metal details are a deep metallic green.
Walt Disney World Resort appears to be refreshing the Haunted Mansion in preparation for the Piston Peak National Park expansion in Frontierland and the Disney Villains land in development “beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.” Disney is currently transforming the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island into the Cars (2006)-themed addition in Frontierland.
