Life Finds a Way: Real-Life “Jurassic Park” Project Moves Forward

For more than 30 years, Jurassic Park fans have heard one phrase repeated time and again: “Life finds a way.” Now, that iconic line is becoming closer to reality thanks to a groundbreaking scientific project that once seemed impossible.

When Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) famously declared that “life finds a way” in Jurassic Park (1993), audiences assumed it was pure science fiction (despite secretly hoping it would be an eventuality). Now, decades later, scientists have already proven that nature’s boundaries are not as fixed as we once believed.

While nobody is building a real Jurassic Park filled with dinosaurs, one company is attempting something that sounds almost as unbelievable: bringing other extinct species back to life.

Colossal Biosciences, a biotechnology company focused on “de-extinction,” has already captured worldwide attention with its ambitious plans to revive animals lost to history.

Following its recent work involving dire wolves — a project that captured global attention in 2025 after it successfully recreated genetically engineered animals based on the extinct species — the company is now working on an even more ambitious project: the woolly mammoth.

Yes, the same Ice Age giant that once roamed the Earth could one day walk among us again.

Founded by Ben Lamm and geneticist George Church, Colossal has spent years developing the technology needed to recreate extinct species using genetic engineering.

The company’s mammoth project aims to create an animal with key woolly mammoth traits by editing the DNA of its closest living relative, the Asian elephant. Colossal admits that it’s focused on recreating the dodo and thylacine, commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger.

Of course, a real-life Jurassic Park still remains firmly in the realm of fiction. There are no plans to resurrect dinosaurs.

During a recent appearance on Fox Business, Colossal CEO Ben Lamm gave an update on the de-extinction of the woolly mammoth.

“That’s our flagship project,” he said, adding, “We have forty people working on it. We’re only a few years out until we think we’re going to have our first calves. We are actually working with over a hundred mammoth genomes, as old as 1.3 million years. It’s our flagship project followed by the dodo and the Tasmanian tiger.” You can watch the full interview here:

The idea that creatures lost for thousands of years could one day return is no longer just a Hollywood fantasy. And speaking of Hollywood, American media personality Paris Hilton, The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, and Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth are among the company’s notable investors.

From Jurassic Park to Jurassic World, the franchise has always asked one question: what happens when humanity plays with nature? Now, scientists are attempting to answer that question here in the real world. Because, as Dr. Malcolm warned us years ago… life finds a way.
