you needn’t worry. one of the most selfish and vengeance filled characters in the story will still be portrayed by a person of African descent.

you may ask yourself, why did the show runners choose such a character as Snape to be the POC in a major role? why not Hermione? why not one of the other professors that didn’t have such a dark past, and questionable intentions? and most importantly, why only one?

“Officially recasts Snape after controversial HBO casting”

No you didn’t. All you did was cast some voice actor. You didn’t listen to the fans and recast the DEI snape. Quit sacrificing source material for your dumb racist politics and cast people according to the books like normal people!

Bad call to make Sn ape black. All of a sudden he just changes race? Stop being woke and stick to what we know and love. That’s not being rascist, it’s just right.

I am so sick of Hollyweird trying to prove that blacks are superior to whites by raceswapping and gaslighting us into thinking blacks were Germans, Norse Vikings, Canadians, Greeks and everything else all over the world a hundred years ago and older. To heck with the books or stories that’s been handed down for generations, they gotta push that message and call us -iscts, -iots and -phobics when we do not believe their utter nonsense! When Hollyweird does an African movie oh they make sure it’s as accurate as possible! No diversity there or it’s raycist! But European stuff…no way, it’s gotta be diverse! See how that works?!

    1. Oh really

Exactly. Race swapping should work both ways. Or not al all.

Disney did the same thing with Lion King on Broadyway – no whites need to try out. Damn white people.

    3. RichD1982

      Exactly!!

Imagine the leftist outrage if a black character is replaced by a White actor?

I know, redo the Black Panther movies with an all White cast!

While JK Rowling wrote Snape as a pasty white person, she’s retconned plenty in terms of the Wizarding world. She also decided that there re no LGBTQIA characters at first: we heard later that Albus was gay, not when it came out, but retconned into the existing story later. The only characters who may not be “white” are the Parvati sisters, Cho Chang, and Lee Jordan. The author is sadly not a very nice person who has shown her true colors after creating the amazing Wizarding world we all love so much, and many fans were understandably very hurt by the things she’s said. I don’t understand why it’s sooooo important to the story that Snape is white: it doesn’t change a thing. It doesn’t change how he loves Lily and was constantly reminded of the loss by her only child becoming his student. It doesn’t change how the Wizarding world works, or the motivation behind the characters. It doesn’t change anything to do with the story. What it *does* do is show a more diverse group of people who are more representative of what the world actually looks like, rather than an almost entirely white cast. I find it very disturbing that so many people hate the casting so much that they actually harass the actor and send hate mail. There is nothing that actually deserves that response in regards to making movies and TV, it’s an over-the-top reaction that shows only the worst part of the people so against it. Racism? Yes. Just because it’s wrapped up in a fictional character doesn’t mean it’s fiction: the hatred and racism come through very clear. I think it’s really sad and shows just how much further we have to go.
