Credit: Erica Lauren, Inside the MagicWalt Disney World is already having a busy stretch, but 2027 could bring an even bigger wave of additions across the resort.
Several major projects are currently under construction, including new attractions, an entirely new themed land, and another Disney hotel. One longtime Magic Kingdom attraction is also undergoing a transformation that will dramatically change the experience guests have known for decades.
More projects could potentially join that list before the year is over. Disney hasn’t announced opening windows for every development currently underway, leaving some room for additional surprises.
For now, though, three major projects have officially landed on Disney World’s 2027 calendar. Here’s what will join the lineup next year.
1. Tropical Americas and Pueblo Esperanza
One of Disney World’s biggest additions expected in 2027 is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Animal Kingdom will introduce guests to Pueblo Esperanza, an 11-acre land inspired by areas of Central and South America. Disney wants the fictional community to feel like a place with its own history and culture, themed to the tropical Americas.
The land will feature two major attractions.
One will bring Indiana Jones to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with an adventure Disney says will be unlike any other Indiana Jones attraction worldwide. The story sends Indy into a preserved Maya temple as he searches for a mythical creature.
The other attraction will be Disney’s first ride-through experience based on Encanto (2021). Guests will enter the magical Casita and follow Antonio after he receives his gift of communicating with animals.
Pueblo Esperanza will also offer plenty beyond its headlining attractions.
A large fountain will serve as a gathering point in the community. Disney is also building a working carousel featuring carved animals from Disney stories. Families will find a new themed play area, while a large hacienda will house one of Walt Disney World’s largest quick-service restaurants.
Disney has officially confirmed that Tropical Americas will open in 2027.
2. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge
The parks aren’t getting all the attention in 2027.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is currently rising along the shores of Bay Lake, adding another major hotel to the Walt Disney World Resort lineup. Disney projects the new resort will open in summer 2027.
The waterfront retreat will place a heavy emphasis on nature while incorporating Disney storytelling throughout the property. Disney has described the hotel as a place where families can relax and reconnect with the outdoors.
Its location should also make it particularly appealing to Magic Kingdom visitors.
Lakeshore Lodge sits along Bay Lake and will offer boat transportation to Magic Kingdom. Disney has also revealed The Wetlands, a large outdoor recreation area located beyond the hotel’s lobby.
Construction continues as Disney gradually reveals more details about the property. Once completed, Lakeshore Lodge will give guests another Disney-operated option in the Magic Kingdom resort area.
And while Lakeshore Lodge represents something completely new, another major 2027 project involves reinventing something very old.
3. A New Version of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress won’t look quite the same when it returns to Magic Kingdom.
The Tomorrowland attraction closed in July 2026 for an extensive transformation, with Disney expecting the new version to debut in 2027.
Perhaps the biggest addition will come before the familiar Carousel family story even begins.
Disney is creating a new introductory scene featuring an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney. The scene takes inspiration from the 1964 television special in which Walt introduced Carousel of Progress ahead of the New York World’s Fair.
However, Disney isn’t stopping there.
Imagineers are moving the Carousel family into completely different decades. The first act will take place in 1969 as the family watches the historic moon landing. Act Two jumps to Halloween night in 1985, with Sarah taking a larger role in the story.
The third act moves to New Year’s Eve 1999 as the family prepares for the new millennium and experiences the growing influence of the Internet.
Finally, Disney will take guests into a possible distant future. The family will live in an out-of-this-world home featuring futuristic technology, including a helpful robot and space travel.
Despite those extensive changes, “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” will remain part of the attraction.
Could Even More Arrive in 2027?
Those three projects have official 2027 timelines, but Disney has several other massive developments underway.
Monstropolis continues to take shape at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new Monsters, Inc. (2001) land, Monstropolis, will include a suspended coaster inspired by the famous door vault sequence, along with dining, shopping, and other experiences.
Disney hasn’t announced an opening date. Outside projections have generally pointed toward 2027 or 2028, with 2028 appearing increasingly likely. That still leaves the possibility that Disney could move quickly enough to add another major opening to the 2027 calendar.
Piston Peak National Park presents another question.
The massive Magic Kingdom expansion will bring the world of Cars into the park with two new attractions. Construction is underway, but Disney hasn’t announced an opening year.
Outside projections have varied considerably, ranging from a potential late 2027 arrival to 2028 or even 2029. Until Disney provides a firm timeline, Piston Peak shouldn’t be considered an official 2027 addition.
Still, its progress makes it another project worth watching closely.
Disney World Has a Big 2027 Ahead
Even without Monstropolis or Piston Peak joining the schedule, 2027 already looks significant for Walt Disney World.
Tropical Americas will deliver a new land and two major attractions. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will expand the resort’s hotel lineup. Meanwhile, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress will begin its next chapter with Walt himself helping introduce the experience.
And Disney may not be finished filling out the calendar.
With construction happening across multiple parks and several opening dates still unannounced, the confirmed 2027 lineup could grow before guests actually reach the new year.
