Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2020) remains one of the most beloved chapters in the galaxy far, far away. It introduced fans to a younger Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), his Padawan Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), and a host of characters who would go on to shape the wider franchise.

While the animated series concluded in 2020, its story has continued to echo throughout subsequent Lucasfilm projects, most notably Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018), which picked up Ahsoka’s story years after the Clone Wars had ended.

That story then made the jump to live action with Ahsoka (2023), which essentially served as a continuation of Rebels while bringing several of its characters into the modern era.

However, the series also looked back at Ahsoka’s time during the Clone Wars through flashbacks, allowing Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker and Ariana Greenblatt’s younger version of Ahsoka to appear alongside Rosario Dawson’s live-action incarnation, who was introduced in The Mandalorian Season 2.

Now, Lucasfilm has unveiled a first look at the next chapter, and the trailer makes it clear that the legacy of The Clone Wars is going to be a major part of what comes next.

With Anakin Skywalker returning and a story that revisits Ahsoka’s younger years, Season 2 is effectively bringing more elements from the animated series into its live-action continuation.

During the Disney Studio Showcase Panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, series creator and Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni and cast members from the show presented the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2, which arrives on Disney+ on January 20, 2027.

Unlike The Clone Wars, however, Ahsoka takes place during the same era as The Mandalorian (2019–2023), The Book of Boba Fett (2021), and The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), a few years after the events of the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983).

The new season also brings back Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).

Baylan Skoll is now played by Rory McCann, following the death of actor Ray Stevenson in 2023.

The trailer also revisits one of the defining questions of Ahsoka’s story, with Anakin asking her, “Are you a Jedi or not?”

That question echoes the major The Clone Wars storyline in which Ahsoka walked away from the Jedi Order after being falsely accused of a crime, ultimately choosing to forge her own path rather than return to the Order.

Ahsoka Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, and consists of eight episodes.
