Unbelievable!!! The ICONIC resorts need to be updated, but NOT altered completely. First, it was announced that ticket prices were rising – do the head dudes (the top dude was from my hometown. I thought he’d share Walt Disney’s vision of Americana. NOPE) not enjoy a more-than-healthy salary? You are making it impossible for even upper-middle-class families to afford a 3-day trip to what once was the Happiest Place on Earth. You can’t feel happy when you have crushing loan rates looming in your head to bring happiness to your family.
We can easily afford lengthy trips to WDW, but CHOOSE NOT TO! How many other families can afford your extreme prices and choose NOT to! I’m hoping more and more. In the long run (soon), you will see fewer guests in the parks (perhaps that is already happening, and you are making up the deficits with increased everything.) Also, I picture the top tier of Disney management “paying” for their egregious decisions. Florida will look pretty silly with an empty theme park, open air and rotting. I’ve seen smaller operations left to ruin in my lifetime.
Walt Disney has been a passion of mine since I could watch The Mickey Mouse Club! I read any credible book about Walter Elias Disney, his dreams, his management style, and service attitudes. I emulate all and taught my nursing students the latter. Disney did announce that WDW was to change as we faced future innovations, but I’m not sure he had in mind putting the wrecking ball to the parks. I am as sad as I was on the day he died – December 15, 1966. I was only 14, but mourned him deeply from my home in Medfield, MA.
Please, take everyone on a soul-searching retreat to explore innermost values for WDW. And then enact them. Please.
I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s gotten way too bad down in Lake Buena Vista lately. First the demolition of Pleasure Island back in ’08, the Crossroads Plaza in ’21, Frontierland and Rivers of America. Now, we’ve got senseless alterations to iconic resorts, retiring beloved mascots for God knows what and unhinged Disney adults ruining the experience for others…. How the mighty have fallen, that’s all I can say.
As long as Disney keeps offering the many discounts for Florida residents such as big discounts on annual passes, room rates, and ticket prices, only Florida residents will be able to afford to go. Seems like people from other states and the world are subsidizing the parks for them. At some point we just won’t be able to, or get tired of it. Check all the discounts for Florida residents only for park tickets, hotels, and cruises. I’m sure if someone does a survey of guests in the park, a big majoritiy are Florida residents with annual passes.
It truly doesn’t bother me that Disney is trying to make the contemporary better. There are hotels in Vegas that were leveled and younger than this one. To give you the best experience Disney is trying to help the old girl live another 55 years. What bothers me is the sensationalism of a headline that make you think they’re tearing it down? “Disney says good by” is a far cry from the story told?
Disney has lost me and my wife from stepping onto property ever again- Walt Disney vision for DLand and DWord was so lower paying ppl could afford the Disney-effect!
Evidently few recall Walt and Roy’s dream coming true for both of these parks! I have read how DLand was upgraded and then after our last visit to DWorld the truth was shown with middle finger as we looked for Figment items after The Carasoul of Dreams was over- the new company HID Dream Maker and Figment in outta way location, back of shop in a corner! They were pushing latest movie items, screw the old timers who grew up watching Disney!
Evidently we are supposed to buy items we aren’t interested in but our time, like Tom Sawyer, is phased out – the cost increased yet I haven’t seen John Travoltra and his F word movie, with mass killings, which Disney bought (Miramax) and released cuz new CEO was for profit, NOT the Disney dream if wholesome movies. .. Wait until the new bldg goes up and they run into same issues original builders did with the Contemporary hotel and Monorail running thru it burps up!

They were thrilled when Josh D’Amaro took over thinking he was gonna be the savior because he was always walking in the parks talking and shaking guests hands. What they didn’t know is they were looking in the eye of the devil himself. Josh is the whole reason prices are so high. It was his idea to raise prices and alienate the common average family that the parks were mea t for. It’s his idea that the Orlando location should only be a once in a lifetime destination rather than a destination families can enjoy year after year. He wants the rich. Not the affordable. He wants younger wealthier visitors who will slirge once rather than a family that will come back multiple times. He wants more high speed thrilling IP based rides rather than the immersive family friendly rides that Walt intended so that EVERYONE in the family can enjoy his parks. That was what he was he hated and why he made the parks. He did didn’t want parents and grandparents stuck sitting on benches while kids event on rides and vice versa. Disney was meant to be enjoyed by the whole family. And he wanted his parks to entertain and educate. That’s why there was frontierland and main street. To preserve the past. Tomorrowland to fuel the imagination of the future. Epcot was meant to educate about the future. Animal Kingdom to promote conservatism. Disney Studios to preserve and enjoy the nostalgic feel of old Hollywood and what went into making movies. But Iger and D’Amoara have killed that all for IP themed rides stuck in where ever rather than making sense. Welcome to the death of Dis ey as it was meant to to be. And now all that matters is making share holders on the board of directors a nd wall street happy and rich. But hey. Go grab a drink at the bar in Pirates of the Caribbean or Spaceship Earth.
My husband and I used to go to the Florida location in the late 80’s. Tickets were reasonably priced around $30 bucks for adults. The last time we went cost several hundred dollars per ticket.Cat We won’t be back.
