Credit: LucasfilmWhen the full cast for The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) was announced, Star Wars fans were disappointed that none of the main actors from the Disney+ series except for Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin) would be returning.
After all, The Mandalorian has a large roster of supporting characters, including The Armorer (Emily Swallow), Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris), IG-11 (Taika Waititi), Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks), Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). However, none of them appeared in this year’s theatrical continuation.
Instead, the film keeps its character ensemble tight, featuring Din Djarin and Grogu and only one other character from The Mandalorian returned: Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios (Steve Blum). Newcomers included Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) and Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen).
There are likely a number of reasons as to why none of the Disney+ series’ mainstays were brought back for the big-screen outing; however, the absence of two of those actors is obvious. Gina Carano, who played ex-shock trooper Cara Dune in The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 was fired by Lucasfilm in January 2021 for sharing divisive social media posts. And, sadly, Carl Weathers, who played Greef Karga, another close ally of Din Djarin, passed away in early 2024.
Out of the two characters, you’d think that Greef Karga is the one most unlikely to return to Star Wars, seeing as the actor who played him has passed away. But it turns out he’s already returned to the galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu – Danger in the Dark, a new one-shot comic from Lucasfilm Publishing, Mad Cave Studios, and Papercutz that leads directly into the events of The Mandalorian & Grogu, explores the consequences of Pirate King Gorian Shard’s siege on Nevarro, as seen in Season 3, Episode 5, of the Disney+ series.
Greef Karga Returns to Star Wars
The one-shot comic, which is now on sale, brings back Carl Weathers’ beloved Mandalorian character, two years after the actor’s passing. The newly released comic, described as a canon prequel to the film, marks his first appearance in Star Wars since Weathers passed away.
Whether other characters from the Disney+ series, such as Cara Dune, will return to Star Wars in some shape or form remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, The Mandalorian continues in many forms, including LEGO specials, LEGO sets, tabletop games, card games, and comic books.

Where Can I Watch The Mandalorian & Grogu?
The Mandalorian & Grogu arrived on digital platforms on July 21.
It’s available for purchase at $29.99 or to rent for $24.99 on major digital platforms, with a 4K Ultra HD release from August 25.
“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy,” StarWars.com‘s official synopsis for the film reads. “As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”
Directed by Jon Favreau and written by Dave Filoni, Noah Kloor, and Favreau, the film stars Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Sigourney Weaver (Colonel Ward), and Jeremy Allen White (Rotta the Hutt).
