A Universal Orlando vacation is going to look a little different in 2026.

Some of the biggest updates involve attractions, ticket options, seasonal events, and even the way guests enter parts of Epic Universe. While none of these changes completely transform the resort overnight, together they could affect how you budget, plan, and experience your trip.

If you’re visiting Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, Volcano Bay, or Halloween Horror Nights this year, here’s a complete look at the biggest changes you should know before you arrive.

Hagrid’s No Longer Includes Express Pass

One of Universal Orlando’s most popular attractions just became a little harder to experience.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure no longer accepts Express Pass. Guests who purchase Universal’s skip-the-line service will still be able to use it on most participating attractions, but Hagrid’s has officially been removed from the lineup.

That means every rider will now need to use the standby queue.

For years, Hagrid’s has regularly posted waits well over two hours during busy periods. Losing the Express Pass option makes early arrival even more important for guests who consider the coaster a must-do attraction.

The change only affects Hagrid’s. Other nearby Wizarding World attractions, including Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff, and the Hogwarts Express, will continue offering Express Pass access.

Epic Universe Finally Gets More Flexible Tickets

When Epic Universe first opened in 2025, guests had fairly limited ticket choices.

That changes in 2026.

Universal has expanded its ticket lineup to include additional multi-day and park-to-park options that include Epic Universe. Instead of purchasing only a single-day admission to the park, guests now have more flexibility with three-, four-, and five-day ticket packages that combine visits to the rest of Universal Orlando Resort.

For families planning longer vacations, this is one of the biggest planning improvements introduced since Epic Universe opened.

Instead of feeling rushed through five immersive lands in one day, visitors can now spread their time across multiple parks without sacrificing the rest of their vacation schedule.

Considering how much there is to experience inside Celestial Park, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, the expanded ticket choices arrive at the perfect time.

Volcano Bay Will Close for Months

One of Universal Orlando’s biggest operational changes won’t happen inside the theme parks.

Volcano Bay is scheduled to close on October 26, 2026, for an extended refurbishment expected to last until April 1, 2027. Universal says the closure will allow crews to complete extensive maintenance work throughout the water park, although those dates could still change.

Unlike typical short refurbishments, this project will keep Volcano Bay closed for roughly five months.

That’s a significant adjustment for guests who traditionally visit during the winter months expecting every Universal park to be available.

If Volcano Bay is one of the main reasons for your vacation, you’ll want to double-check your travel dates before booking.

Halloween Horror Nights Parking Is Changing

Halloween Horror Nights remains one of Universal Orlando’s biggest annual events, but returning visitors should expect a new parking policy this year.

In previous years, guests could avoid parking charges by arriving after midnight. Since Halloween Horror Nights continued into the early morning hours, many visitors used that option when meeting friends at CityWalk or arriving later in the evening.

That loophole is going away.

Universal has updated its parking policy so regular parking rates remain in effect until 2:00 a.m., which is when Halloween Horror Nights ends. Because of that change, guests attending the event should now expect to pay for parking regardless of what time they arrive.

Currently, self-parking costs $35, or $32 when prepaid online.

It’s not the largest expense during a Halloween Horror Nights trip, but it is another cost guests should include when planning their budget.

Epic Universe Could Introduce New Crowd Controls

Perhaps the most interesting update involves something that hasn’t fully happened yet.

Universal recently updated information about its Photo Validation system at Epic Universe.

Photo Validation already allows guests to verify tickets using facial recognition technology instead of repeatedly scanning physical tickets. However, new language now suggests the system could eventually be used at each portal leading into Epic Universe’s themed lands whenever Virtual Line return times are in effect.

That wording immediately caught fans’ attention.

At this point, Epic Universe has not regularly required Virtual Lines simply to enter its themed lands.

The update suggests Universal is preparing for situations where attendance reaches levels that require additional crowd management.

Whether that happens during major holidays, future attraction openings, or another high-demand event remains unclear.

Some fans have also wondered whether the change could pave the way for future offerings, such as Epic Universe Annual Pass access, though Universal has not announced anything along those lines.

Either way, it shows the resort is preparing for larger crowds as Epic Universe continues to grow.

More Changes Could Be on the Way

These updates may seem unrelated at first, but together they show how quickly Universal Orlando is evolving.

Epic Universe continues attracting huge crowds, Halloween Horror Nights remains one of the country’s most popular seasonal events, and Universal is adjusting operations across the resort to keep pace with growing demand.

Guests who haven’t visited in a year or two may notice several differences when planning their next vacation.

From attraction access and ticket options to parking policies and crowd management, spending a little extra time researching before your trip could save both time and money once you arrive.

Universal Orlando has entered a new era following the opening of Epic Universe, and 2026 is already bringing another wave of changes. Staying informed now will help ensure your next vacation goes much more smoothly.
